Anyone have experience with Revelstoke? Went down the google rabbit hole looking at Canadian resorts and stumbled upon this one. I had never heard of it before but apparently has the most vert in North America.
I've skied Revy once.

It's legit terrain. It's narrow and steep. Even the greens are narrow. If you want the upper bowls, enjoy the bootpack. It's the only way to get to them.

Are you on Ikon? Sun Peaks is also in that area. Way more friendly to family/intermediate skiers.

If you're flying into YYC, you also get Ski Big 3 out of Banff. Much closer than Revy (or coming from YVR, Whistler is much closer).

Lookout Pass opened with an 8" base.

I think I may try to get all of our crap moved into our locker next weekend.

Got a **** ton of snow down here in the springs/Black Forest/falcon area over the past 3 days and just now digging out. Wish all this snow was up in the mountains where it belongs.

Never had seen this before but apparently Disney got pretty far down the road in the planning of a Disney ski resort in the Sierra Nevadas on land that is now part of Sequoia NP.

Oh, and the most interesting thing that I learned (and what led me to the rabbit hole) is that Disney in their market research) led the development of the Green Circle, Blue Square and Black Diamond hierarchy which was accepted by the industry.

That is interesting for sure.

It's also always weird to me (I guess it shouldn't be) that Europe has a different rating system.

I hate how they don't have trail signs worth a **** in Europe. And trails are numbered rather than a name.

Hey let's take #7!! It's a *checks notes* the same rating as all the runs are. Great!

There's a way better way to do ski / mountain rentals but I don't know if I should let it out of the bag. It may get me smoked.

Wow, what kind of palace are y'all getting? I got 6 nights ski in at Purgatory for $1300. Granted it is a small place that only sleeps 4 but I'm there to ski, not lounge around in luxury accommodations. To be fair, they definitely have far more costly and nice options in the area.

It's nice. 3 bed 3 bath house. Rooftop deck with a hot tub. Newly constructed.

Big resort mountain towns has gotten stupid expensive.

Also, everywhere jacks up the rates for spring break. Fleece us Texans hard.

Purgatory does not equal PC, not in the same ballpark. I like both, grew up skiing Purgatory a lot. And as they said, they are in a nice sounding 3/3, not just a place to crash out after skiing all day. Everyone has a different view on what they want when they head to the slopes.

I can believe it but I do agree prices are climbing pretty fast year over year. Yeah, I go on the cheap, about 1 level above ski bum

Just booked a trip to Pagosa Springs to ski Wolf Creek. I think it's a bit better than the NM mountains and I really like the drive through the corner of NM into CO

Paid $510 for 4 nights in December for lodging at the quality inn for two queen beds for me and my mate. He's flying in from Midwest. Gonna pick him up in Dallas and make the drive from there.

I grew up in Breck during the school years. My mom and stepdad's house cost $400K to buy in 2007. It's worth $1.4M now. Just insane. And they still tore down the berganhof for ski in and out condos.

You are doing it right! I'm fortunate enough to live in Durango and ski Purg 30-40 days a year. Definately not the best resort I've skied but I love it since only 35 mins away! Powder days are great on a board!!!

Our place in Ridgway was $450k in 2015. It was 2.9MM last year. It's insane.

So was just considering a mid December trip to sandpoint to try and get a viewing of the northern lights and hopefully take in a couple days skiing. Question is what do you think chances are of catching the lights and if we flew into Tacoma how difficult a drive could it be to sandpoint with weather?

It would be a crap shoot on both getting over Snoqualmie and having clear skies/aurora happening.

We've had good northern lights a couple of times in the 5 years we've been here, but we have a mountain literally across the street to the north of our place. I've never driven over Snoqualmie, but there are a ton of people that come over from Seattle to try and avoid crowds.

So I misspoke. Was looking at flying into Spokane. Curious about drive to sandpoint from there. Guess that eliminates the pass you referenced. Not sure what I saw saying sandpoint was one of the better locations to view lights.

Spokane to Sandpoint is an easy drive. You're on divide highway pretty much the entire way, there's no significant elevation change, and it's heavily maintained. Outside of a big storm and having to wait a little bit for the roads to get plowed, you shouldn't have any problem getting there.

Sandpoint is in a pretty big, wide valley around Lake Pend Oreille, and it's relatively dark because the town isn't that big (compared to Texas). If there is a solar storm that coincides during you're trip, you would have a decent chance of seeing lights. Largely will depend on how strong the solar radiation is.
