Someone literally asked about lodging at a ski resort. He replied and then got the ban hammer. Unless something else happened it was a complete hatchet job by the mods. Of course they won't explain it.

He was a huge resource for skiing.

After overanalyzing and researching for 6 months I finally just pulled the trigger on some enforcers from last year. Now I just need to overanalyze binding purchases (or wait for one of my nephews to tell me to just just buy these).

Just booked a trip for 13 people to Colorado in February This will be our 6th year in a row to Winter Park and we will be skiing the 17th to the 19th. Probably going to do some ice fishing on Lake Granby the day before we hit the slopes. February can't get here quick enough!

This may be a dumb question but I bought some pre-owned rentals two seasons ago and have been skiing on the adjustable bindings ever since. I love the skis but am I missing out on permanent fit to my boot bindings? Thanks.

Mostly that they're a little heavy and are going to have you elevated a bit. Most likely not worth replacing and having to work your new mounts around the current set of holes

Depends on the binding. Most rental bindings are about 40-50% heavier than their equivalent non-rental counterparts. The benefit of adjustable is that you can change the boot position on the ski to accommodate more conditions. On hard pack days you can be in classic and powder days move the boot back into a progressive fit. The downside of rental brining outside of pure weight is the pins wear out really quickly and they usually distribute their excess weight in front of the toes. So same effective edge but more force is required to change the direction of your inertia with rental bindings. That's big if you're into bumps or trees. Plugging the holes is easy and unless you're in a mondo that's 30+ you won't have an issue with resetting the new pair on the old skis.

If you decide to move to a fixed binding, they usually have + or - one mondo of give. Meaning if you buy new boots and the mondo is within + or - one of the mounted mondo, they will still fit.

Here are some ways to test ski binding pins:

Check for play
Insert a ski boot into the binding, click it into the toe, and lock the heel into place. Then, push the boot side-to-side to check for play in the binding, the binding/boot interface, and the binding's mounting to the ski.

Check the heel gap
A maladjusted heel gap can make it more likely to pop out of the binding or compromise safety release. Same as checking the forward release.

Check the boot toe
Inspect the fit of the boot toe in the binding. Check for vertical or lateral motion / shaking / vibration.

Check for damage
Regularly inspect the binding for damage or cracks, especially the metal supports under the toe wings and in plastic heel casings.

Check the heel piece
Try to rotate the heel piece with your hand while stabilizing the ski with your other hand. You should see no movement or a nice return to center action.

Another test you can do which is a lot more fun if you have the props is to put the ski base down on a subwoofer or speaker. When you hit the base with vibrations you can see where the binding may be carrying vibrations up through the ski into the binding (and then into your foot).

Anyone have experience w/ Black Crows Serpo's? Considering grabbing some for this season

They were on my list of sticks I was looking at, all I can offer. Also I generally love the way BC's look.

No experience with them, but Skieesentials just released their mid 90s ski comparison. The caveat with their videos is that they don't tend to say anything negative about skis, as they are still a ski shop after all.

They are great but very soft and VERY light. They are 200 grams lighter than the Camox which are already a very light ski because its their mid waist down hill alpine version of the Camox which is more freestyle but same profile except under waist. At a 132/93/115 Rocker camber rocker true twin tip it's basically a scaled down clone of the camox from the sidewall construction to the turn radius. So equivalent effective edge but less weight as it's a 93 vs 97 waist.

The rocker camber rocker will give a lot of good play under foot, the ability to really push and pop pump tracks, a nice balanced feel in spaces where you need to really pivot across your outside edge through your inside edge to make a proper turn across your weight distribution (a tight tree run or moguls).

The only places they may struggle is deep powder and cutting through crude / refreeze. They're really light and a twin tip so they don't have the push to bust crude and naturally want to float over vs cut chop and the 93 waist on a twin tip toe and heel doesn't give a lot of options other than to bite your lip and eat it until you're through. That's where the 97 under foot Camox provides a little more balance for an everyday ski.

Overall, they are stellar for groomers, trees, and almost anything front side. If you're looking to have the ability to go deeper into powder stashes and really float on the back, I'd look at the Camox in a 97.

If you buy them, I'd suggest pivot or marker wardens or tyrolia attacks in a 95-100 waist. You don't want to go less than 93 or over 103.

The closest alternative ski would be the Kore Head 93s which are a little stiffer and only a partial twin tip but essentially the same profile outside of the rocker in the heels. The Kore Heads would be equivalent to a Toyota and the BCs would be the equivalent to a Maserati.

In general, it's rare to find a 93 in a rocker camber rocker especially in a more freestyle profile. One thing a lot of people forget is when you go full twin tip, it's beneficial for advanced skiers to increase the ski length usually one size as the toe and heel rocker lower the effective edge compared to a non rocker profile. Meaning if youre skiing a 184 twin tip you have the same effective edge as a partial twin tip 180 or a flat 176 because the toes and heels don't make contact w the run.

My favorite Black Crows are the Camox, Atrius, Anima & Serpo. I don't particularly care for the daemon or the birdie lines.

I think the ski fits my skiing style well. I have also considered Enforcer's but concerned they might be a little too heavy/beefy.

Enforces are a titanal core in anything under 100. At 100 and above they are double titanal. They are stiff and HEAVY. 600 grams heavier per ski than the serpos in an 88 and 800 grams heavier in the 94. If you like the Enforcer line, you'd also enjoy the Kendos and Mantras. If you're wanting to stay mid 90 waist, the Volkl Blaze, and Rossy Sender TIs are awesome in a traditional rocker camber flat profile. Line Chronic or Armada ARV if you want more play w twin tip thats a little stiffer than the Serpos but want a 93-94 waist. You'd also probably enjoy the Elan Ripstick 96 however it's not going to have the play that the full twin tips provide since it's partial twin toe and heels but a great ski.

The only downside I would say about the BC line if they tend to toe chatter if you ride short. You won't get as much yow chatter in the Lines or Armadas. I really don't mind the chatter because you can extend your length and adjust your weight distribution to eliminate it, but we aware that if you go w the serpos or camox and they aren't top of your head or above, you'll catch some chatter on steeper grades and higher speeds due to the flex under the waist and the twin tip.

Enforces, Mantra, Kendo, Blaze and Sender TI have almost no chatter due to their weight and having less rocker in the toes and partial or no rocker in the heels.

Silverton offers a pretty solid season pass if you're looking to dip into Heli-Skiing.

$299 3 day spring unguided pass is $299 with a $99 Heli-Drop and 2 days at A-Basin, Loveland & Monarch. For $449 you get 5 days a week unguided during the spring unguided season and 2 $99 Heli-Drops.

The price of the Heli-Drops are more than the cost of the pass if you were to bid it to an outfitter or Heli guide service. $650 for two helidrops is a steal.
