I was always impressed with the Outdoors legendary ability to track things down.

Anybody have interest in trying to track down a scammer?

Gonna need a lot more info.

If its overseas, I can promise you that whatever it is that you lost, is gone.

If it's in Texas, there is a good chance that they could have a propane cannon installed next door.

OP also needs to be prepared to tear down the offenders fence and sex up his wife and possibly his daughter as well.

What's the story? We need a good story. The more salacious, or just plain stupid, the better.

Has the offender's mom fallen out of favor now?

Looking at the ticket exchange board, it looks like OP was scammed by this number while trying to buy tickets: 979-429-3744

Thread on the Ticket Exchange board

Not to kick a person while they're down, but if you google that number, there are multiple links to it being tied to a scammer, including a couple of threads from right here on Texags 1-2 years ago. Lots of red flags should have clued you in.

Sorry to say but I doubt the OB will help you track anything down, consider the money gone and do your homework before all future online transactions.

afgan - I know - i missed the red flags. What through me off was the ag tag and the email address of the poster with @tamu.edu - I assumed it was a student.

I'm not worried about the money - I'm pissed that it happened and don't want it to happen to anyone else.

So here goes -

I posted my question if the seller would be willing to split the tickets - only needed 2.

I sent an email to the poster and before I got a reply from the poster I received a text message from the 979-429-3744 number "Hello, still want a pair for Zach Bryan AT&T Stadium Aug 17th in section 119, Row 20?

I asked "who is this? - reply Ben From the board
Me: I didn't remember sending my number

"Ben" asked if I had paypal and gave me GBigPickle7gw@activist.com as the payee

paypal failed but the name on the account was "Kathrine Sbskillman" weird

then "Ben" asks if I have zelle - I don't but my wife does

"Ben" give me William Chung 3863010788 as the payee - then I give my address as to send the tickets to.

Wife sends money via Zelle

Original Poster replies to my email that he would split tickets and would be in touch cause he was about to board a plane

I reply quickly - what number would he be contacting me from - he gave a 713 number

Knew I effed up!

I'll post some screen shots of text exchange after that from my cell.

sorry for the large pictures - Ultimately I'll let it go but I wanted to see if the Outdoor Board wanted to have fun with it.

The number is goes to google voice - I should have called instead of replying after the first text

I completely admit I screwed up.

Just my opinion, but you sound a little angry in those texts

Sorry man, but the fact that he kept responding and apologizing is actually quite hilarious
sushi94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah - I was angry - but laughing as my daughter was typing the texts while I drove this morning.

I was shocked they replied this morning -but started to try to have fun with it.

Get ready for them to try and access your bank account/accounts via your phone number. That's how this works. They don't stop at stealing your money. Now they know the phone number associated with the bank account is green, they will try to hit it again GUARANTEED.

I don't have zelle - used my wife's zelle to send the money. But yes I'm watching everything - not sure what all I can do other than getting a new phone and pulling my current number off of every account

That's why rarely lay for anything like this via a pay system. Always pay cash.

I don't think there's any risk of losing more than what you sent. Dude in lagos or mumbai had a google voice number available from scamming someone on craigslist (i am going to send you a code so that i know you're real...it will come from Google). Sees big $$$ tickets being sold with a phone number, registers the 713 version of Ben's number as his google number then looks at the posting history of people who replied "I'll take them, sending pm" or whatever and sees your phone number in a for sale post, texts you and badda bing badda boom, he just scored like a months wages wherever he lives. That's why we don't put phone numbers online. Sorry you got scammed

I don't believe the scammer was the poster - somehow the scammer saw my reply to the poster and got ahold of my phone number - I have posted it before in the classifieds when I was selling FB tickets

I think I mis understood. Looks like ag tag guy is legit seller. But someone else was watching that thread with a google voice number. Ag tag guy is not scammer.

Sounds like scammer stepped in before the seller could reply.

1. Seller offers tix
2. OP asks about splitting
3. Scammer said yeah sure whatever pay me
4. OP paid
5. OP and scammer exchange words
6. Seller replied yeah I can split

Listen to this. If there's anyone who knows a ticket scam, it's the Nichols clan.

So googling that number suggests that he's pretty prolific, gotta be living like a king in mumbai. Amazingly (but also not shockingly) google doesn't care, and just says to report it to the ftc. In the spirit of ob vigilanteism, however, it appears you can request to have "your" number removed from google voice using the "take your number back" function. Just put the google voice number in and it will send a code to that number to verify that you want the number removed. Of course it will go to the scammer and he'll reject, but it will be annoying if it happens a couple hundred times. Bonus points though if you can convince him to send you the code (screen share?) but then he can always use "reclaim my number" to get it back. Bottom line is that google won't do anything about it but any time you can spend making a scammers life tougher is time he's not spending scamming someone else
Bayou City
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you have the option to add 2FA that's not verifying through your phone number, it wouldn't be a bad idea to set it up just in case.

Aren't a lot of these scams run by quasi government sponsored gangs to help countries under sanctions get access to US currency? It's not just Nigerian Princes anymore.

I think I remember that Myanmar and N Korea and Iran have whole scam forced labor farm call centers that do nothing but target Americans and Europeans. It's a well coordinated machine now.

At my last job they had a fraudulent wire get called in verified and passed through for over $100,000. The scammers somehow called the victim, got a recording of her voice, and then were able to capture her voice into some sort of AI platform that then let them call the bank using the deep fake voice to call in and change the account details. Scary and mind blowing.

Scamming from the afterlife?
In reply to

Yeah, there's a lot of them that are in straight up compounds with armed guards. Myanmar in particular is notorious for these type of cyber scam operations.

It's an intriguing yet somewhat sad topic to explore if you have time to look into it.

Same dude got me… on ticket exchange pinned topics is a running list of known scanners, that number is one of them. I didnt read it until it was too late. Sorry, money is gone and nothing can/will be done. At this point there's no telling how many times that # has popped someone. Live, learn, and trust your gut (I should have…)

Texags needs to make an Ags only ticket exchange. Scammers are getting out of hand.

During the Supers and the CWS there was lots of scamming going. Both of the below accounts seemed to use ChatGPT to formulate Aggie-centric responses, or at least some very generic-sounding canned garbage responses to generate street cred. HAD to be the same deadbeat. Also had similar post distributions across texags boards.

This dewsh started off sus_agdawg. sus_agdawg joined on April 13, 2024 and somehow got his username changed within a few weeks.

But Texags has a policy where you can't change your username within 6 months. So is this a bug in the forum software or did someone at Texags change his name for him? Or dare I say... an inside job?

Also worth noting this account still has a TMF icon. So there still an active account with the TMF, or does texags code not refresh when TMF accounts lapse for non payment?

Then the other account...

This one has since edited some posts but he got butthurt when he got called out.
