The Mountain Home/Norfork, Arkansas area got hit by 3 tornados early this morning. We had a lot of tree damage, some damage to house, vehicles and Airstream trailer by one that came close.

Anybody with previous hurricane, tornado etc. experience have any advice?

Don't just take the first offer. Fight for what you think is fair.

Our experience (not from tornado but high winds) is that insurance wants to pay next to nothing to cut down and remove any downed or broken trees. Yes, they'll cover whatever they damaged (assuming the trees weren't already disease/dying), but taking down and hauling trees can quickly run in the thousands.

Also, we had a year to go back to them if we found any additional damages they didn't catch the first time or if we found out the money they gave us wasn't enough to cover repair xyz.

We have Amica and honestly, they've been great to us. In some instances giving us much more than expected.

Are you guys ok? Do you need any help? I have skid steer and grapple and would be glad to bring it and help if you need it.
We faired ok over here. Our neighbors have a friend down by Salem that house was leveled but they were in their storm shelter.

Our ranch house and barns in Texas were damaged by a tornado about 7 years ago ….. on Memorial Day week end no less.
Lots of trees twisted off in yard. USAA insurance handled everything perfectly. Never needed to argue with them at all. Our neighbor had similar damage and he had another insurance company… Farmers maybe, not sure, but he had to fight with them on everything.

We are ok. Unhurt and damage to house and vehicles can be fixed.

I have a grapple for my tractor that is going to get a lot of use. Initial report is 150-170mph winds from the one that came through here. Tornado that hit Salem demolished Panther Bay Marina at Lake Norfork.

I'm glad it stayed a little south of you.

Thank you!

Just let me know if you need anything. Don't hesitate to ask. Be safe.
Wife and I were at Norfolk yesterday at Panther Bay Marina. I've known Rose and her mom for years.
Lake had so many boats on it we decided to go back home. It was crazy.
I am hearing that lots of campers and folks had one hell of a night over there!

My advice is to call your carrier NOW. Don't wait around for answers on what to do. They are about to get slammed, if they aren't already, and it can take weeks to get anyone out and then another month to get your scope of work and approval.

CAT adjusters are now spread out between many states, and many cities and resources are limited.

Outside of that, your duty is to mitigate additional damage, so if you have leaks you should attempt to tarp and prevent further damage.

Otherwise, the adjuster will look at everything. Then when you get your scope of work back from insurance...SHOW YOUR CONTRACTORS so they can assess it and see if it's reasonable or if they need to make corrections/additions. That way, they can get moving on that quickly and get the project rolling for you.

Either way, get the claim filed sooner than later.

Just talked with Rick at Bass Cat. He says they have a few trees down but that the Briarcliff area and Norfolk really have it bad. Says they are letting nobody but landowners and residents in there right now.
Prayers for those folks.

Hope the damage to your property isn't too bad and you are able to get it fixed soon.

I'm vacationing near Branson, Mo. (South of Branson.) I think you got hit by the same storm system we did. Tornado sirens went off about 4:15… it was storming pretty bad and hailing at that point. We went down to the "tornado shelter" - the stairwell on the first floor and sat out the worst of it.

My car got some hail damage. A few dimples on the hood and the roof. It's a big SUV so the roof doesn't really matter but I'd like to fix the hood. Maybe paint-less dent removal will work. Hail also broke my windshield. It's drivable and I leave for home tomorrow so I'll need to fix it when I get home. I'm going to see if I can fix without making a claim. It's a 2015 and has >150k miles on it. It is a very reliable, mechanically sound Toyota Sequoia and we're passing it down to the kids.

Some of the other vehicles at the resort got hammered. Larger hail must have come down where they were.

I live about 4 miles south of Briarcliff on Hwy. 5 literally at the Salesville/ Norfork city limits, If it was this bad here I can't imagine what it was like for them.

That blue spot in the picture is the debris flying after it passed through Briarcliff.

Be watching the weather this afternoon. Storms forming now in Oklahoma look like they will head toward Branson and Springfield

Yes, thanks for the warning. They've already alerted us. My daughter was looking forward to Memorial Day Festivities and I have decided to stay near our room so we can get to the tornado shelter if necessary.
