I notice no one is planning on going to Eagle Pass. The crowds there shouldn't be too bad
Thought about going just upriver to Quemado and seeing it from the cemetery there where my father, grandparents and two sets of great grandparents, along with many other relatives are buried. Just too much of a drive....seeing it with my brother at his place off Lake Travis.
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Buddy has a lake house on horseshoe bay he seldom uses except for summer. I can't find a detailed map showing the eclipse percentage in that area. Will it be total there?

I'm in Kingsland on the Colorado arm, I'm expecting something similar to the 4th when everyone is here. A boat ride from Horseshoe Bay up the Colorado arm gets you to about 4 miles from the center. Might be a little crowded on the water, but you get to go back in the daylight and not nearly as crowded as the roads. Everyone leaving Tuesday will be fine.

I'm in Llano arm across from BoatTown. Will be close enough for me, and like most summer weekends I'll leave boat in slip until Tuesday.

I "called" the family cabin on that arm of LBJ back in 2017. Not sure if I will use it or just stay at the parents in Llano.

We have a lake house on Buchanan in Tow, so we're going to be damn near right under the center line. Plan to head out there Saturday afternoon after baseball and softball games.

I have an event in College station on the 5th and on the 6th I'm driving to Utopia for an event hosted by the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Planning on the drive out there to suck, but once I'm on the ranch everything is provided.

Getting to Houston Monday night is also going to be awful.

Llano is a little closer to the center than you would be able to get on Lake LBJ.

The center line passes right over my buddy's ranch in the hill country. He's wanting to take the families to see the eclipse and shoot hogs, axis and aoudad. But, alas, it's a school day....

We are skipping school Monday and imo it is completely justifiable.

I don't live anywhere near central Texas so it will certainly still be a school day.

That said, the same group of whacko moms in our ISD facebook group that are always rallying people to join them and pull their kids out of school on standardized test days (because their 3rd grader has purple hair and suffers from ExTrEmE tEsT aNxIeTy) are crying at the fact our schools aren't closing for eclipse day LOL.

I have no idea if my school is closing or not but i definitely told all the other parents in my kids classes they should definitely skip school that day.

If you haven't seen one in the totality of the full eclipse, you don't know.

Totality? It's up to 4m 28s on the center line.

You know what I meant. It is so brief. I just don't understand taking a trip or day off for this.

My family's in Nebraska not that many years ago. Also seen a few partial eclipses on the farm as a kid. I don't get it.

Don't bring the partial ones into your argument, you're moving goalposts. Total eclipses are spectacular and a very moving event.

I'm taking 6 days off of work and driving from California with 2 of my sons to see it. It'll be worth it.

I don't know. I have spent over $1500 for a day at Kyle Field watching a team that has been anticlimactic so maybe it will be more fun than that?

I'm in BCS but thinking about driving to Waco to get a little closer. Maybe hang out in a fast food parking lot for the duration then driving back.

We can either watch it at a family ranch between Brady and Llano or fight the crowds to get closer to center? Worth it? How much time difference between the two? Is there a difference in the affect?

The duration of totality is longer on the center line but otherwise the experience will be similar. Up to you if it is worth the hassle of dealing with traffic to experience darkness for another minute or so.
