I've been trying to find a spot in the hill country to bring our motorhome for Sunday and Monday night with no success. Don't need hookups, but everything I've found is booked.

It isn't a smart idea to bank on one place. How do you know what cloud conditions will be that day? Im watching the forecast as it gets close and making an educated guess based on that.

This last eclipse was ruined for many people and almost ruined for my family due to cloud cover.

Can get you a primitive RV spot in Utopia if that is of interest.

This was predicted in October as well. Even had small town sheriffs making the news bc they feared "invasion" from the cities.

To my recollection, none of it ever happened. Most folks simply stepped outside and watched from their home. The most I remember hearing about was an increase in traffic in a few areas along major highways.

I wouldn't expect anything diff this spring.

Yeah not sure what to think, but the newspapers are going with the full armageddon angle and even the FBI Crisis Team has been briefing small towns on how to handle the invading hoards.

It's going to be different. Go try to book a room in non- tourist towns during the eclipse dates-eg Lampasas Burnet Gatesville. Sold out

There's some big festival out at Reveille Peak Ranch just out of Burnet.

My sister's family is nuts about it and are travelling all the way from out of state to watch it near GSP. What's the big deal? I'm not going to take days from work to see it. Yes, I know it's rare but it will happen again unless the rapture happens.

For 2044, folks will have to travel to Montana or Canada to see it.

No other total eclipses traverse TX (other than a tiny bit of the panhandle or Brownsville) this century.

Exactly. I've had this on my calendar since 2017 when I saw the one in Wyoming

It's called the Frio for a reason.

Luckily I randomly just found a new RV resort in Johnson City that just opened on the Pedernales River and still had tons of spots open at a reasonable rate.

Problem with any of the rv places in the hill country that still had availability is they are charging $200+ a night with a 4 night minimum. Pretty outrageous. Tons of people with land posting on FB groups that are opening up boondocking sites.

As others have mentioned, the difference between a partial or even an annular eclipse with a total eclipse is pretty much day and night. WIth a total eclipse, you can look directly at the sun with no protection. You can see the corona. You'll see some planets appear. It's a beautifully eerie experience. I went to Missouri in 2017 and the experience was incredible. Don't miss out on this.

Erm, I'm not sure I would suggest or follow this advice.

During totality, it's perfectly safe.

Yes, during that small time. But are the risks really worth the reward? I just wouldn't be telling large groups of strangers that it's ok.

It's very easy to see when totality starts and when it ends.

I have family in Llano and Kerrville. My guess is Kerrville will be an absolute ****-show.

Last month, Kerrville PD posted that they were expecting over 100,000 in town for the eclipse. I'm in Fredericksburg and they are projecting over 40,000 in town that weekend and Monday.

We will be at my FIL's place between Boerne and Bulverde. Traffic will suck getting home the next day probably, but oh well.

For those who have been around one of these before, is it truly gonna get crazy on the path of totatlity? I live in a rural suburb ~1hr east of Dallas and it passes directly over us. Should we expect to actually get crazy with traffic and people? Just wondering if we should expect to just stay home and make sure we have what we need, just to avoid traffic and junk. Any insight?

I haven't been through one before, but we are getting all kinds of warnings in Wimberley. They have already canceled school for the day

Haven't been through one but live in the Boerne area. We've been told to stock up and stay home, that the crowds will be nuts.

We have floated the Comal in March before and my kids are already swimming in the Guadalupe. However I wouldn't want to float with young kids especially with low and slow water levels. Find a good spot and post up. Lot less stress and it's easier to grab a snack or go back to camp if someone is tired or is over it versus being stuck. Even better if your post has some rapids they can ride down and come back over and over.

I'll be at my office or house in Fort Worth since we're in the path of it.

God willing I'll be able to see it again in 2045 on my cousin's ranch in Oklahoma if I can take it over one day.

Same here. Schools are cancelled. So either admin are using it as an excuse for a day off or it actually is gonna get crazy.
