For those who have been around one of these before, is it truly gonna get crazy on the path of totatlity? I live in a rural suburb ~1hr east of Dallas and it passes directly over us. Should we expect to actually get crazy with traffic and people? Just wondering if we should expect to just stay home and make sure we have what we need, just to avoid traffic and junk. Any insight?
I drove up to south of Caspar in 2017. there were cars parked in the totality about every 20 feet along every highway. As soon as it started out the other side, I headed home. beat most of the traffic but it was bumper to bumper for hours. And that population is a fraction of texas even if you include the Colorado folks that headed north.

I'm watching whatever part of the eclipse we get closer to Houston. I'm not sitting in gridlock for hours trying to get back. LOL.

I drove to BFE Kansas in 2017. It was worth it. Very cool experience. I'm excited to view this one with my family and luckily don't have to leave the house.

We were in bumper to bumper traffic for hours after the eclipse in 2017. I can't imagine how crazy traffic will be in Texas hillcountry. I imagine this is why schools are closing.

It doesn't last long but I think it is a worthy experience to take a few hours or a day off work and spend the time with your kids. I believe this is the first total eclipse over Texas since 1878.

Buddy has a lake house on horseshoe bay he seldom uses except for summer. I can't find a detailed map showing the eclipse percentage in that area. Will it be total there?

I'll be at Garner. Oakmont loop. My brother was able to get several sites together, so he's inviting quite a few friends down for it. I'll be driving out from California with my sons.

Getting there Friday as well, leaving on Monday will be something.

To see a natural phenomena like this that I have never seen before. And will not have an opportunity to see again in my lifetime. That is less than a4 hour drive. Hell yeah I'm going to see it.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I saw one in 3rd grade. Next accessible one will be when I am 75. No, nothing to see here, just another day...

We'll be at my in-laws' place near Castell. They're getting a chest freezer for the house so we can stock up on ice. All the rental places on the Llano River are booked for 10X normal rates. Local officials have warned the landowners that there will be people parked on the roads in front of their properties.

If I had land there I'd be selling access for travel trailers/RVs and I'd sell beer.

I personally don't care all that much but I can see why a lot of people do. It's something different and who am I to judge if they have too much time or don't.

Peoples have gotten upset over these events for tens of thousands of years. As long as everyone just crowds out Garner or something and no one starts sacrificing babies or goats or something, I see little harm.

No pasa nada, bruh.

Is that dude really upset people want to see an amazing natural phenomenon and share the experience with their families? Life must suck being that miserable.

It's supposed to be over 99% totality here in Denton County. That's enough for me. I'll avoid the chaos to chase .5% totality

If you are that close, just drive out and tailgate the day of. You won't regret it. The % coverage difference does not equate to the output of the eclipse. 99% is a far cry from 100% in this case.

How many people are going to climb Baldy to watch from the top of the mountain?

I'm fast food on Marble Falls and trying to guess how much extra business to expect, meaning extra inventory, some normal suppliers not running on Monday which is normal restock from weekend day, and what to expect from CC transactions, or if there is even wifi or will it crater. I've kept one cc machine on an old slower than dirt dial up because it never fails when there's been internet problems in town.
Emergency management is expecting 100,000 extra people on both Llano and Burnet counties, which is three times normal population, and complete breakdown of most services. Llano has even purchased sat phones for all patrol personnel and not expecting cell to work.
Going to be interesting.

My suggestion would be find a spot AWAY from the center line. Les people and you still see the total eclipse. I have to be honest, I don't know how much there is to gain by seeing an extra 60 seconds of totality. We aren't directly under it, but close enough.

Baldy is a short fun hike for older kids or adults, for younger kids crystal cave is a fun one. Hang out river side around Pecan Grove is really nice and they have a volleyball court. Otherwise we normally just hangout and grill and relax.
