Fixing to purchase a new electric range oven. Curious what brands y'all recommend and if the air fry feature some come with nowadays is worth it for the extra cost?

Currently leaning towards a GE or Samsung. Want to keep it under $1k.

I know the OB knows how to cook.

Avoid Samsung. Finding parts and or service in the long term will be difficult / nigh impossible. The COVID supply chain fiasco is still reverberating in the appliance parts business, but Samsung was a dumpster fire before and no reason to expect any changes in the future. Quality is a bit suspect too.

Beyond that, ranges haven't changed much in 30 years. GE/Whirlpool/Electrolux all use the same internal parts suppliers if not the same parts. Find one with the features you want at the right price and you'll be fine. Newer features like steam and air fry are more likely to give you problems.

Have a LG stove but it's gas but does have all the bells & whistles like the griddle/grill plus air fryer.

People realize "air fryer" is just a convection oven right?

I don't necessarily have any brand recommendations, but if you are doing an electric range I would recommend an induction range.

We have one and I love it. I would probably prefer gas but only for the classic look. The functionality and ease of clean up of the induction range is incredible.

It's crossed my mind but I'm concerned about longevity as well as the extra cost of it and new pots and pans.

As a side note every article I opened about induction tops mentioned boldly about saving the planet and it's better for the environment. That alone has rubbed me the wrong way.

Ha ha that would turn me off, too. No clue how it's helping the environment.

They do work great, though. You can get a nice set of stainless steel pots and pans for not much $. Cast iron works great, too.

I had a traditional conduction glass cooktop in the last house and this is light years better.

Is gas an option? I grew up with my parents using electric so I was used to that, but when my wife wanted to switch out our electric for gas, which required routing in the appropriate piping, we did and I'd never go back to electric. Cooking on gas is great. That said, our double oven is electric.

Here is an article on the induction oven benefits. 3 times more efficient then gas, 10% more then electric and less pollution. Not going F16 burning gas in your home does produce pollution in your home. It may not be much, I have gas and wouldn't even think of swapping it out, but burning fuel in a confined space is an issue. Almost no one has the proper ventilation in their homes.

Another vote for induction if gas isn't an option. Most pots and pans that I've seen recently are compatible and it is definitely superior to conventional electric stoves, but they are probably going to be on the upper end of your price range.

I would also echo the induction recommendation. I had a gas thermador and then went induction. Will never go back to gas or traditional electric. Most of your pans you already own probably work anyway, like cast iron. Even someone like Kenji Lopez Alt, who is probably the most technical minded chef in the world today, has said he would choose induction over gas for a new build. You won't regret it at all and it had nothing to do with the environment.

Stoves are cheap… buy one and use it, if you don't like it buy a new one and sell the old one on Facebook market place .. you won't lose much money.. they install super easy too

+ whatever on induction. Recently got one and it's phenomenal compared to regular electric. And as previously mentioned, cleanup is a breeze.

Stay away from electric range, they all suck.

GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, Viking($$)

Stay away from Samsung or LG appliances. They make great TV's and phones, but suck at appliances and DGAF when their designs are proven to be horrible - they keep producing them and telling consumers to pound sand.

We have a KitchenAid induction and love it.

Based on this thread it seems that electric ranges don't all suck.

There is a reason why absolutely no restaurants or chefs use electric.

If that's all you have, it's all you have. But given the choice between electric stove and gas stove - gas 100 times out of 100.

Electric ovens are better than gas ovens.
