How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm looking to order a .22 caliber suppressor and have kind of settled on 3 options: DeadAir Mask, Rugged Oculus, and the Energetic Armament Nyx Mod 2. From my understanding on .22 suppressors, most all of them have very good suppression, it's really a matter of what features you want in order to pick one.

I know the Mask is kind of the standard, but the Oculus and Nyx also seems to be well-reviewed. The Oculus and Nyx are modular and can be run in short or long configuration. The Nyx is titanium, the Oculus and Mask are stainless steel.

At SilencerShop - Mask: $439, Oculus: $399, Nyx: $519

Any thoughts or experiences with these?

Mask or Oculus. Wont be disappointed with either. I have shot both on a Ruger Mark IV, 7" & 16" .22 AR, and my 10" charger. I ended up going w the oculus bc it is modular, but supposedly the mask is a little quieter on first round. I didnt really notice any difference, but YMMV

ETA: I would look at safe cleaning methods before going titanium. I know 22 cans get dirty as ****, so I wanted something I could clean with anything

I have two sparrows and just bought a oculus to add to the 22 can list. I will say I love my SiCo sparrow, have shot it in 22LR, 22 mag and 5.7. It works great on 22 LR and Mag and makes 5.7 hearing safe!

I purchased the Nyx and have been very pleased. It's a lighter can and has worked well. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. They are all great cans.

I have a Sparrow it is pretty good.

I got my dad a Q- erector. It is significantly better. I would buy that all day.

I went with the Rugged Oculus for two reasons, first, it is modular which is really nice on a small, light pistol, and second, .22 cans require frequent cleaning and stainless allows you to media blast, media tumble, dip, ultra-sonic, you name it...

Thanks for the info so far!

Regarding cleaning, the Nyx product page says this:
Quote:

Because of titanium's chemically inert properties, the NYX Mod2 Silencer can be cleaned with aggressive solvents and cleaning solutions without fear of damage unlike aluminum and stainless silencers.
I get the chemical properties, but what issues are there with stainless and solvents? I also see the allure to really scrub and media blast if necessary for stainless over titanium.

I also have a Sparrow, would recommend

In my opinion I would not buy a suppressor for 22LR in a long gun unless I planned to shoot subsonics. The suppression level you get from any of the name brands is so minor with supersonics I just don't see the point. You also have a first round pop to deal with. Now, shooting subsonics is a different story, or if shooting standard velocity rounds in a suppressed pistol, which effectively is often subsonic, a 22LR suppressed really shines. As stated, east of take down, cleaning, and reassembly is important in choosing a rimfire can.

I've only handled a Sparrow but it works great. I dont notice much of a difference on a pistol between subs and standard velo. On a rifle it makes a world of difference.

Next on my list is the Oculus (not sure if I'd ever really shoot it in the K version) and a YHM Phantom.

Anyone have experience with the Phantom?

CGS Hydra Aluminum. Weighs 3 oz and is so quiet.

I chose an Oculus but have no feedback on how it actually performs since it's still in jail

I also have a SiCo Warlock II. It works fine and is super light, but is only rated for semi auto 22LR. I ordered the oculus to cover 22 mag and 5.7 as well as 22LR with a binary trigger.

I just picked up my Thunder Beast Take Down this week. I have shot a buddies and thought it was pretty awesome. I will try and get a video of me shooting it a little later.

Oculus. I have a Mustang, which is the same design, just aluminum tube and baffles, fisprst round pop is barely noticeable. I coat the baffles with lithium grease, makes it easier to clean, and helps with suppression, like running wet.

I think all .22 suppressors work well.

Dead air mask without a doubt.

Why? Rugged Oculus beats it in every metric and offers modarity.

Not first round pop

I still bought an oculus though

I have a small pile of .22 silencers, different brands.
Can't tell sound difference on any of them.

Don't plan on cleaning them and I shoot more than the average guy.

I recommend the lightest and cheapest your local dealer sells.

A can will significantly reduce noise even without subs. The older I get the more I understand the importance of hearing.

I second this one. Weight was my guiding factor. My .22 is for long morning squirrel hunting and carrying any extra weight is no good at 66 yrs. young. Just put a Kidd trigger and the CGS can…we ready to chase bushytails!

Too late here…I pick up my hearing aids tomorrow.

Stainless is fine with organic solvents. Depending on the type of steel it may not be suitable for very caustic or acidic liquids. Most gun cleaners are just solvent so it should be fine.

Not to my old ears, as the shooter! I can detect a slight difference, but it is not significant in my opinion.

I have a mask on a 10/22 and the bolt is the loudest part.

Thanks for all the replies, fellas.

I'm still torn on the Mask or Oculus. I like the Oculus for modularity, but I'm not sure how often I would run it in short mode. For those of you that have it, do you run it in the short configuration often, and how big of difference is there between long and short?

My buddy has one, mine is in jail.

He doesn't shoot it in short mode much, periodically on pistols. Suppression is obviously lower, but still better than nothing.

Pretty loud on a supersonic rifle.

Thanks man. Since I already have the Nomad in jail, I'm leaning toward the Mask. I just don't see running the can in short config very much.
HUEY04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I may be the outlier here, but when I've got my Oculus on a pistol it's in the short configuration most of the time and even on my 10/22 rifle I'll run it that way from time to time. I just like the smaller/lighter package and it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference in the sound signature.

You know, it wouldn't be such a big deal on which one I bought if it didn't have to include a 9-month wait and a giant pain in the ass if I don't like it and want to sell it.

I have a SiCo Sparrow and a YHM Mite. The Sparrow is the more quiet of the two. I would like to try a Mask to compare
