Is anyone's dog refusing to eat Purina Pro Plan? I havent used Victor (it got great reviews on numerous sutes though), but I just switched mine over to Diamond Naturals because America's Country Store guy recommended it. Perhaps Ill switch to that if the Diamond Naturals doesnt go good in a few months. My dog just all of a sudden refuses to eat the Purina Pro Plan after I got a notice from Amazon that the formula changed. Asking because you're leaving Purina...what's going on with them?

Got the recommendation for Victor on here. We feed High Pro Plus and the dogs seem to like it. The poop is fairly easy to pick up too.

Why switch off pro plan? Pro plan sport 30/20 for my dogs, all ages.

Don't know much about Victor. We feed Science Diet per Agvet13 recommendation.

I've fed my Weimaraner Victor the last 7 years. She loves it and it's great on her stomach. Feed the grain free ultra pro.

Victor Hi-Pro Plus for my two labs from the recommendations on here. Switched from Pro Plan. I get the Victor from Chewy delivered to my door on auto ship. If we ever get low I just speed it up and it's usually here in a few days.

Tractor supply carries victor, and it's usually cheaper than online. Been using it since our dog was a pup. She loves it and has been very healthy overall.

One food we will never use is Taste of The Wild or anything their company makes after hearing about the multiple law suits.

Same here, from breeder recommendation.

Seems to be working well… any reason to switch? Is Victor better than Science Diet?

The 30/20 puppy is what the breeder was feeding. Saw no reason to change until adulthood. Pro Plan 30/20 runs about $2.57pp. Victor for same 30/20blend $1.34 pp through Chewy.

FYI the older dog is on Hill's weight control and previously on PP. I'm not wedded to a particular brand. Hill's product is abt $2.14 pp.

Yes, seen the same issue with purina pro. the formula has changed and somehow got ****ed up during the time of covid. Amazon, Big box, local store doesn't matter. Going to start looking for something different. Definately not the same.

My cousin who works at the Victor plant got us on to it. According to him their QC people are rigorous. My Aussie's system as a puppy couldn't handle something in the Purina formulation. We switched to Victor and that went away.

We stick with the cheapest Victor bag that's available and we've had no issues.

+1 for Victor. Been feeding our lab Victor for a couple years and have no complaints.

Just a PSA announcement fellas: be aware of the association / link between grain free diets and a heart condition called DCM. DCM is a type of heart failure and may or may not be reversible (if diet related). This issue (pathophysiology - ie causation and mechanism of action - is not completely understood (diet-associated DCM in dogs) but it is new and real.

***I have no conflicts of interest to declare, am not compensated at all by anyone in the pet food industry.

Please take a few minutes and review these links before you consider grain free diets. If you do insist on feeding grain free, consider talking to your veterinarian about screening for sub clinical disease w a blood test for NTproBNP:

We tried to go to Victor from Science Diet and went right back to SD. They went from 2 normal size poops a day to about 5 monster size each on Victor. No thanks. Never making a change from SD again. And yes, we did a gradual transition so it wasn't from a sudden change. Victor just made them mega poop factories.

Been using Victor for our Labrador since we got her from the breeder. The breeder highly recommended Victor. I had never heard of it so I checked with the vet first. The vet gave it high marks and said proceed.

The only problem we ever had with it was one bag last November. Our dog refused to eat it. I called Victor to ask if they had any recalls or changed their formula. They swore to no formula changes and sent me a new bag no questions asked. Our Labrador ate the new bag right up and never had any problems again.

Even including that one problematic bag I'd give it two thumbs up. Customer service was excellent.

With regard to the Diamond Natural food pictured above, it states that it is for all life stages. Well, any food that states that is really not formulated for any life stage.
Puppies, adult, and geriatric dogs all have different nutritional requirements.
A 6 month old puppy doesn't need the same food as a 12 yr old dog.
Not promoting any food, just an FYI for the folks here to get an age appropriate food.
And please consult your veterinarian, as they have knowledge beyond the feed store guy or cousin that works for feed mill.

Should I not be feeding my lab Purina Dog Chow? He's 5 and decently active. Very active during dove season. We put him on that based on our vets recommendation when he was a pup.

Interested in this as well. Golden retriever poops a lot on Victor and the wife's complaining is getting old.

Does everyone else's dog have big poops with Victor?

She wants to switch him to Science Diet for this reason

The guy who started Victor is building a new plant a few miles south of it and it will be open probably within the year.

Victor is good food. My dogs either get Victor, Fromm, or Science Diet.

I'm a big believer after making the switch from dry dog food to Farmers Dog. Previously always feed Nulo dry dog food. Nulo is a great food and a Texas owned company.

That's said have switched to Farmers Dog and I get a specific created food for the Weimaraners breed but also any other specific requirements my Weims may need.

My Dogs are in peak health and I can tell a difference on being on a diet like Farmers Dog.

I put my dogs on Heritage Ranch (HEB) and they absolutely love it and it's been great. My labs coat is amazing and some hot spots he'd had disappeared and the doodle's hair and skin looks great too as long as he is groomed up.

Victor has been great food for my Catahoula. No more gas, good stool quality, no allergic reactions. He's 11 years old and still very active, great shape, great weight.

I started another thread seeking advice for my 14 1/2 yr old GSP who was having diarrhea and no appetite. I had been feeding her Purina Pro Advanced Maturity. After reading this thread I tried Victor dog food starting on Monday. It's like a miracle - she gobbles it up and her diarrhea has disappeared. I'm wondering if her problems were tied completely to the Purina chow?

I highly recommend Victor. I switched our dogs to it 9 years ago when I got my current Catahoula based on the Breeder's recommendation. Our dogs do great on it and our Vet told me to stick with Victor as it's one of the short list that he recommends.

I think some dogs do better on one food than another. Doesn't mean the food they don't do well on is bad. Just doesn't work for them.
