Cowboy Prime is the new steakhouse in town, and it was desperately needed. Hard to get into, dinner reservations are usually booked up weeks in advance. It's owned by the same people as Cork & Pig; which is also a good all-around option.

Opals Table and Garlic Press are both really good options. Venezia and Rays are okay for Italian. Good TexMex in this town is somewhat lacking. Carambas Spanish Inn has my favorite fajitas so far. Dona Anita's is pretty good stuff. Not a fan of Cancun, except for the grilled jalapeños soaked in soy sauce.

Where are you from that has better Tex-Mex than Midland?

Gerardos, El Banquete, Carambas, Cancun Grill, Martinez Bakery, Garcia's Burritos, Dos Compadres, and Oscar's are all better than anything you can find in BCS. And I'm sure there are another dozen or more as well.

Only city better I've been is San Antonio.

No kidding!? That's awesome. I don't travel out there anymore, but that place is great.

La Bodega hasn't been good since covid hit. Food is bland now and service is worse. Much better off going across the street to Rosas or to Tkilaz

Gerardo's and Martinez are a staple in my diet when I'm in Midland. I have an entire team of direct reports out there so it's pretty often.

Martinez's tacos are pretty hard to beat.

Houston Tex Mex is shockingly terrible for being a major Texas city

Been a few years since I've been out there. Whitehouse meat market still have a good burger? It was a regular spot in my rotation.

Tell me what you like and I'll tell you why you're wrong…

It's a lot harder to find bad Tex Mex in Midland than in Houston

Yeah I tried to list the big ones where he would ***** about…interested to hear the feedback. But even if that's not your thing, like you said there are a million other super legit places if wanting more true Mexican or even texmex.

Midland Tex-Amex can't touch Houston. I grew up in the Houston area but been in Midland 5+ years now.

27 years now in Houston from west Texas. I agree with the others that Houston is lacking really good Tex Mex and Mexican food.

It is good to see someone sticking up for Midland. That is what they need more than anything, civic pride. That being said, the texmex argument is ridiculous. Midland is fine for texmex , but still AAA compared to H town.

Houston is one of the best food cities in America. Gtfo

No offense to Midland but not even in the same league.

El Tiempo beef fajitas.
I might get butchered for this but Cyclone anayas and Goode Company have excellent enchiladas. Original Ninfas is good. Sylvia's. There are hundreds of hole in the wall places that meet or exceed small town TexMex.

I find that the restaurants I thought were good in my home town were more nostalgia than anything. I lived in Houston for 10 years. I travel all over the country for work. Not much compares. Live back in College Station now so wouldn't call myself a Houston Homer.

Any place that serves cheese puffs is eliminated for me. El Tiempo comes to mind. To me all those you listed are very bland. I'm still looking for a place with stacked enchiladas and tacos in freshly fried corn tortillas rather than out of the box machine shaped shells. I've been here 27 years and haven't found either though there are some pretty good taquerias on the side streets.

Stacked enchiladas? Now I know you guys are trolling. Stacked enchiladas are from New Mexico and therefore inferior.

So all Mexican food is from Mexico, the old Mexico, we're talking about Tex-Mex! Not Mex-NewMEX
sunchaser

So Stacked Enchiladas that originated in Chihuahua and served in New Mexico is Tex-Mex?

Houston has great food! But Tex Mex and BBQ in Houston are trailing Dallas, SA, and Austin.

Whoever brought up Goode Co for anything has broken taste buds.

And El Tiempo is OK. But anyone can make fajitas.
JeremiahJohnson

Goode Company has terrible bbq. But great enchiladas .

Houston the last 5-10'years had come a LONG way on BBQ…trails only Austin in terms of big cities.

I LOVE the salad at Wall Street. Used to go sit at the bar and just get soup and all you can eat salad.

Jetch took me to Opal's one night and I almost put out.

These days I generally grocery shop and eat at the hotel.

Ditto. The Chick-Fila on Faudree has become my go-to most of the time I'm there.

the fact that you hang out with jetch makes any suggestions you have questionable.

As much as Midland/Odessa sucks in general, I'm going to miss going out there. My territory just changed, but I've been covering that area for 6+ years.
