Any great restaurants? Thinking steak or Mexican. First timer here.

Garlic press is your best bet IMO for a steakhouse that isn't salt grass or outback

It's been a few years since I've been out there but my favorite restaurant out there was always Peppers at the midland airport, because it meant I was close to leaving midland

Cork and pig or prime. They have added a bunch of places in last couple years

It's average Mexican food. And that's from someone who is in TN, where Rosas would kick ass.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Monterey
Casita Gerardo
La Bodega

For Mexican

Garlic press for steak or a new place called cowboy prime but you probably won't be able to get in.

Cancun grill or wall street if you want something unique to midland downtown.

Midland has a Chuys now, so it's gone big time.

It's been several years but Wall Street Bar and Grill in downtown Midland had a decent steak.

My go to when there:
Opals table - basement has a decent bourbon and cigar selection
Wall St
Cork and pig

Lots of ppl commenting who clearly haven't been to Midland in a good while… in order of preference. Cowboy Prime would be higher than Opals but it is pricey and hard to get into.

Opals Table
Cowboy Prime
Cork and Pig

If you end up at Cowboy Prime go ahead and get the steak tartare as an appetizer and thank me later. If you are solo then go and sit at the bar and order from there.

Agree on Wall Street for "old school midland" vibe

Thanks for the replies.
In town for a family Aggie wedding in Garden City Saturday. Have hunted numerous plus times in the Panhandle but have never before been to the Midland area. Had no idea what to expect.

We went early to the Garlic Press but they were booked and had no bar area seating. Looked pretty small. Went next to the Cowboy prime and they had seating available in the Sushi bar but the main area was booked.
No problem as the gin martinis and salad were great. Followed by wine, fillet, and scallops topped off with the chocolate lava cake. Great restaurant out in the middle of BFE. Would recommend.

When I was a kid it was a big treat to eat at the Clear Springs Cafe on our bi-monthly run to Sam's to stock up. Is that place any good anymore? (Was it ever?).

If it was a really special trip we might spend the night at the Holidome. Opulence.

Haven't been to Midland in 15 years. Hope I'm not missing out.

Haha, sure didn't.
Kidding aside though, midland's not bad (especially as oilfield towns go), but to be honest I never spent much time there. Any time I flow to midland it was to go spend a week in pecos, so I'm not really any help other than a funny quip. Feel free to dog on Houston (my current home town) if you want and I'll gladly chime in my support.

Never, EVER, apologize for dumping on the Permian Basin. It is our right, nay, our DUTY to do so.

Cowboy Prime is the new steakhouse in town, and it was desperately needed. Hard to get into, dinner reservations are usually booked up weeks in advance. It's owned by the same people as Cork & Pig; which is also a good all-around option.

Opals Table and Garlic Press are both really good options. Venezia and Rays are okay for Italian. Good TexMex in this town is somewhat lacking. Carambas Spanish Inn has my favorite fajitas so far. Dona Anita's is pretty good stuff. Not a fan of Cancun, except for the grilled jalapeños soaked in soy sauce.

Go to Midland Meat Co. Grab yourself some amazing steaks ( its a butcher shop not a restaurant.)

Their restaurant, Half Acre, has some pretty good BBQ. My favorite in town.

Ugh I got salmonella poisoning from lettuce at the burger place in the airport once. Made for a miserable thanksgiving

Haven't lived in Midland since 2000. Back in the day the standbys were Wallstreet Bar & Grill (steak / seafood), Venezia (Italian), La Bodega (Mexican). Clear Springs came towards the end and was a nice change of pace. Shoguns was also fun with the "pretend" Japanese chefs. Once they combined Midland and Odessa into one MSA, a lot of restaurants and businesses started coming in toward the end.

I came here to say Cork and Pig, which has been covered. But keep in mind that it's in Odessa. Or on the way to Odessa at least.
