Probably the oldest lurker on all of texags...............81 and enjoy reading mostly the politics board and keeping up with the sports events/games. For years I attended football, men's basketball, season's tickets, and baseball, season's tickets too. From 2 hours away, I gave it up on travel the 2 hours to all of those special times;
A '61 widow and loved every trip to aggieland.

I thought there would be more younger folks on here.

Where do people in their 20s go for info or discussions and do they value interacting with other Aggies?

I prefer learning from other Aggies and therefore avoid sites like Reddit. I also value anonymity and privacy so I avoid most social media platforms for questions or discussions.

I only found out about this board about 3 years ago and lurked for over two years before deciding to create a profile and start posting and I'm 40 now. I'm staunchly anti-social media, and I consider the OB a gray area. I bet a lot of younger outdoor ags either aren't aware or are like I used to be.

Dying breed is the worst case scenario - meaning lots of younger ags aren't OB people.

This site is a relic from the 90's, thus the average age is in the 40's.

Younger people are on Reddit if they use a site formatted like TexAgs. It is more likely they are on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, etc. The interacting with other Aggies I see there appears to be following "famous" Ags or recruits & tweeting/communicating with them that way. Nothing quite so involved as what we have on this site.

I agree, but honestly this board has gone downhill a bit IMO with posters such as Ursus, Chemist, Sean etc. no longer around much. They had lots of good info but I suppose got tired of the BS here or just too busy with real life to bother posting.
Other sites set up like this one (such as Texas Bowhunter, 2Cool Fishing, Rokslide) offer similar content as the Outdoor Board & I visit occasionally. They are worth poking around on for sure.

Cuarenta tambien (40… class of '04)

Anyone else in their 60s, like me, or older have to pause when you hear someone in Class of '04 say they're 40 and go, "Oh yeah, I guess that's right?" 2004 seems like it was last week.

This seems pretty accurate. I think quite a few folks lurk on here for a very long time before posting. I did for a long time…

It's also a little intimidating for folks when you have so many inside jokes and references to other posters that no one knows what the heck is going on. We also have some pretty polarizing views on things, i.e., high fences.

I have always enjoyed this board and the people that are on it. I have found it more difficult to be on here as frequently since I am busier at work and with kids… I imagine some of the original posters fell into that problem, in addition to their opinions of the board "changing".

The old guard was waaay less p.c. than the board is now. It had a locker room mentality and was the last bastion of that environment on TexAgs. A couple years ago some mod became aware of the "antiquated" goings on on the OB and came over here and frustrated the old guard enough that many left or got mad enough to be banned which probably meant many of them just quit coming altogether. I know if I ever got banned again, I'd be done here.

I'm 29 and this is correct. Most my age spend time on the platforms that you mentioned. Some of my closest friends I grew up with have stopped hunting all together. I don't have a Reddit, TikTok (Chinese-owned with questions practices), or twitter. I use this board for a lot of outdoor information. I get more here than anywhere else. It's sad to see that love of the outdoors is dying with young people. Luckily my wife and I have not lost any love for the outdoors. I grew up in the Houston area in a neighborhood and she grew up in south Texas where the closest neighbor to her childhood home is now her sister who lives two miles away as a crow flies. We live in a small east Texas town now but even most of our friends here prefer to never leave a neighborhood. They don't like hiking, camping, hunting, or fishing. It's saddening to think about. I'm definitely the outcast of the group but it is what it is. It's so important to raise your kids around the outdoors. My parents luckily did. You can live in a neighborhood but you need to get out and see the outdoors. It's vital for kids these days. And I think many my age are raising their kids without much love for the outdoors. I do realize that I likely seem older than I am. I still yell at rain clouds when they skirt around the fence perimeter at the ranch.

Preach. I am the same way, have some friends who hunt and fish but being in our early 30's is tough with families and kiddos. No one seems to have time, so I'm just gonna pick dates and we are gonna see who can and can't go. No one wants to be outside, and I'm a weirdo for drinking out of the hose still. It's a weird world. Parents are on the outskirts of Longview and boy how do I envy them.

I lived outdoors, had to be outside when the sun came up and back when it was down. Rode bikes, fished, climbed trees, etc. the state of GA was an amazing playground.
