If you have an imgur account you can upload them there and embed the images here. It is what everyone did before texags started hosting uploaded pics.

I still do it when I want to post a lot of pics all at once here because TexAgs only uploads one or two images at a time.

Howdy TXCAV,

No, I fished Lake Houston Wilderness Park yesterday. The Shoals is an awesome place though.

You mind giving a general idea where the shoals are? I don't need GPS coordinates, just a river or park name or something. Looking for some productive spots for my son week after next. Familiar w the steps, not the shoals.

Edited to add …. Nvmd, looks like i found it. There is an area in E Texas called the black shoals above toledo bend.

You'll need a boat to get to the shoals I'm referring to. It's a 8+ mile run from the ramp to the shoals. Lots of down trees, snags, and stumps along the ride too. I am a USCG licensed capt and fishing guide, and I am running trips to that area.

Are the big females there TXCAV? We've been destroying them in multiple places in the Trinity watershed but very few females so far.

Mostly small males still. Caught a few females mixed in but not real size.

I took off work yesterday and went to the Narrows recreation area on Lake Travis again. Water was up and flowing harder than the last time I was there. I fished below the first riffle with no luck. I went above the riffle and caught 5. All 5 fish were between 14.5 and 15 inches. I fished the second riffle upstream but didn't catch anything. I was fishing along with another gentleman and he said his friend was catching some white bass another 1/4 mile upstream. I decided instead to go explore somewhere else so I headed over to Shaffer Bend.

When I walked down the hill to the rock outcropping at Shaffer Bend I was taken aback Wow, what an absolutely beautiful place. I only caught 1 white bass but it was a 15 incher. I caught a few bass, sunfish and goo as well.

I fished Lake Houston Wilderness park today. I ended the day catching 32 white bass and almost 100 yellow bass. Yellow bass are thick in a number of places this year. I've caught quite a few over 1/2 lb. They are great fighters on the fly rod so I enjoy catching them. I have been specifically targeting them this year and trying to learn more about them.

We need a good rain here around waco. There's not enough water to fish the creeks.

I fished Harmon creek today. I headed upstream about a mile to the spots I caught fish last time. There were no fish there. The current in that area had almost vanished. So I headed upstream to find some current. About a half mile up I came to an S curve. I was able to get out of the yak and wade fish. I ended up catching 26 in that S Curve. Much bigger fish today. Lots of nice keepers. And finally, some females!!!

Good job!

You remind me of me 20-30 years ago. This time of year on weekends I'd hit every bank access point within a 2 hour drive of SA and catch the heck out of them (well, those are the trips I remember). Then I graduated up to a 13' Whaler and did more damage. They are so much fun on ultralight gear, tossing 1/16 oz. jigheads in moving water. And Clousers on the long rod. And the fish fries.

Keep after them and thanks for the reports!

I got into them really good on Travis during that warm snap Saturday. There was a huge scattered school of them roving around Tom Hughes Park area shoreline depths 12-20 feet. They were killing a kastmaster trolled behind a hellbender, but I caught several plus a couple of good sized largemouths on a deep diving shad shaped plug. Just trolling in. 30-50 feet of water. And mostly big girls 12-16", with only a few males mixed in. And yes, they were not hybrids (single line reaching tail, white bass body form, white bass tooth patches on tongue). Just big, hard hitting fish. It was fun. And NOBODY fished for them because they assume the wake boarders run them off, but the fish don't care. They are used to boats.

I'm assuming with the low flow, they spawn where the wind and waves keeps the water along the shoreline moving.

Glad you got into them. Always enjoy trolling for them. Can't beat a hellbender to get a small spoon down deep. We'd use Pet Spoons 3-4 feet behind one. Even modified the hellbenders with a weight to get them down deeper if needed.

The smaller Luhr Jensen Jet Divers are good as well.

Shad Raps, SR5 or 7 were always great and trolled true on a flat line.

Fished Saturday 3/13/23 in a creek off the Trinity River. Boxed 77 fish by the end of the day. 75 white bass, 1 crappie, and 1 yellow bass. Caught fish all day, lots of throwbacks, Weather this week looks like a bit of rain but also a cold snap. Some water flow would be good for the bite, no sure about the temp drop. Still have availability to fish next weekend

Travis doesn't have hybrids in it, or not a population big enough for anyone to know they're there at least.. There's stripers but not hybrids.
MouthBQ98
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ah. I know there's stripers but didn't know the stocking history on hybrids in the lake. That means I have caught a couple of truly monster white bass on the lake before, and assumed they must have been hybrids.
TH36
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So that's what happened to me one night, caught the biggest ones I've ever seen and wound up throwing a few back thinking they were hybrids. That's when I discovered there were none in there.

If you kept 1 yellow bass my guess is it was a big one

Thanks for the report

Are yellow bass commonly called something else?

Not usually they are just often mistaken for white bass. They have much thicker and more solid lines with a yellowish tone to their background color.

put in at the 99 bridge (choke) the past 3 days and didnt see one person fishing for whites. talked to a few folks that were catching a couple crappie with minnows and the majority of fisherman were bass fisherman trying to stay out of the wind.

Thanks for info and great pic. I don't fish freshwater lakes anymore, and we weren't aware of the difference when I was growing up. We had whites, hybrids, and stripers then on lake LBJ with regularity.

Anyone been out lately? This cold snap has to have put a damper on things.

Doesn't seem like it has warmed up enough for North Texas yet.

I may and get out tomorrow or Wednesday but will probably just chase pre-spawn largemouth.

Fished Sat and Sun on a watershed off the Trinity River, Boxed 20 fish sat with 3 guys, and boxed 25 on Sunday with 2 guys fishing. Bite was def a lot slower. Air temp Sunday morning was just above freezing at daylight. Out of all those fish cleaned, only a couple were females. Have boxed over 200 fish from this area in the past couple weeks and maybe 25 were females. The males were still dropping milt when caught. Where are all the females?
