Okay guys and gals, it has been a busy Monday but here goes...
(I am not spending a ton of time proofing this so my apologies for typos, run-ons, etc...)The Rest Of The Story Of How My Aggie Ring Took A Two Week Vacation In The Guadalupe River! So going into last week the second guy who I had originally contacted had visited the lost ring site a total of 4 times and had removed a large amount of cans from the area but had no luck finding the ring. I have to give this guy a ton of credit too because he was in constant contact with me and he was putting a lot of effort/time into trying to find the ring. I am super grateful for him as he likely made M+R's job a little bit easier on Saturday.
So fast forward to the Friday of last week. I received a text from M+R about 9am Friday morning. He and I visited via text about the details of everything and decided on a meet time of 8:30am Saturday morning. What was kind of funny was Scud Runner, the '00 Ag I had spoken to last week, had reached out to M+R that afternoon to see if he had ever contacted me. At that point apparently M+R realized that the guy he had just arranged to meet Saturday (Me) was the guy Scud Runner had been talking to him about the previous week when he was in Cancun. It ended up being a pretty random coincidence when we all realized it.

Anyway, to the meat of the story. So we all arrive at the site about 8:30am Saturday where we go over everything. Scud Runner was pretty certain it was going to be an impossible find. I think his reverse psychology was pretty motivating to M+R, as if he needs any motivation at all! Scud only stayed for a short time as he deemed himself "bad luck".

We went over the details and set up a search perimeter with some broom sticks. We only had enough broom sticks to make a triangle but I felt like from my notes and pictures I took of the area when I lost the ring, we had the right spot. I can't tell you how many cans M+R pulled out but I can tell you he is relentless!! What an awesome guy though. He would take breaks every hour or so and we would film short pieces of the story or talk about family and life in general. It really was an enjoyable day even if he was coming up empty handed so far. We filmed several different pieces so I have no idea what will and will not make the upcoming episode but I am certain my country ass is not meant for film!! Around 1:30pm M+R came out for a break and was wanting to make sure we had a good intro film, as we really hadn't done that from start to finish on camera. He went to dry off to look as if he hadn't been in the water yet. I have to admit, I thought something was weird but only because I thought he was getting close to giving up. We film the intro piece again and he suits back up and gets back in the water. This time he moves his search area about 6' further out into the water. At this time, a girl floating by said she had just lost her sunglasses. Cool, we've got M+R to look for those too. He looked for her glasses for 15-20 min with no luck. He comes back and pulls several more cans out of the water. About 2:45 or so he gets out of the water for a break. We pile all of the cans up and take some "B roll" of them as well as a broken open cast reel he found.

At this point I am figuring he has to be getting tired. Hell I am tired of sitting on the bank just watching this guy work his ass off!! I have had quite a bit of doubt in my mind since day one too of course. I never actually saw the ring come off, I only had the feeling something wasn't right and realized it was gone. I had also been drinking all day so what if I had lost it on another throw, didn't know it and it was across the river far from where we were looking? What if I had sent this guy and all the others on a wild goose chase with bad information on where it could be? I was already down enough on myself for even wearing it in the river when I never do that, now I had probably wasted all of these guys' time. I guess I was also trying to come to grips with the idea that I might be buying a new one soon.
So we do some more filming asking random questions about the Aggie ring and other things. I am pretty sure I butchered some of the things I was trying to explain because I was just out of it by this time. At this point I was craving an ice cold beer and an escape from my dumb decision to wear my ring in the Guadalupe. M+R and I were going over a few things and doing some small film pieces showing what the day had produced so far. We talked about the cans and trash and the fishing reel. Then he mentioned his fanny pack and started to grab something out of it. This was all in slow motion to me because I knew he hadn't found anything of note to put in the fanny pack. Then I saw him unzip that silly fanny pack and pull out the most beautiful gold Aggie ring I had ever seen. I am not going to lie, as I am sure you will all see on the episode, your boy got a little choked up for a second. Apparently he had found it about an hour beforehand which explained the filming of the full intro we had done not long before. The guy played it freaking perfectly though. I had no idea and he totally blindsided me when he pulled that ring out of his pouch. I am not an easy person to surprise or jolt like that at all. That dude had me read like a book I guess because he absolutely killed the reveal. I couldn't really say much but I know I gave him a giant hug and everything was a blur after that.
Looking back I am so glad that I wrote notes down in my phone that night after I lost it. I had counted my steps of where I was when I thought I lost the ring and wrote all of that into a note in my phone. I also got up at daylight Sunday morning and took several pictures of the river, noting any marker I could use to get back to the spot. Those notes and pictures turned out to be way more valuable than I thought they might be. He found the ring in almost exactly the spot I thought it would be based on my notes.
I can't say enough good things about M+R. What a guy! He just as goofy and silly as you think he might be after watching his videos yet he is also just a genuinely good dude. I will be making a few purchases from his merch store this week to try and show my appreciation. The guy was so relentless it is no wonder he is successful in life and business. I text him that night that I was so proud to be a Man Plus River Survivor!! It is pretty amazing the way things happen sometimes but I know I am truly grateful for having met M+R even if it was because of my stupid decision. I will continue to draw inspiration and motivation from our meeting for many years to come!!

A little bit more backstory for the ones curious why anyone would wear their ring in the Guadalupe river. When I got my ring on the day I graduated, August 14th 2009, it was way too small. I forced that thing on my finger and couldn't get it off for a couple of weeks. I wore it all day every day for 11 years, no matter what I was doing because it was basically impossible to get off any way. Finally in September 2020 I took it in to get resized. I can't believe it took me 11 years to do, but it needed to be done. The only problem with getting it resized was that I went up 2 whole sizes when I should've went up 1.5 in size. Of course I didn't realize that until I got it back in October 2020. Since then I take it off with most any significant task I do. I ALWAYS take it off when I go swimming or anything because who wants to be the dummy to lose their ring while swimming?? I just simply forgot on August 6th 2022. Luckily it only cost me a two week period without the ring but I will be getting it sized again real soon!
