I had a few rounds of a couple different seating depths to burn off yesterday after doing my other testing. This was only 410 yards. The 6BR certainly doesn't pack the punch of my 6.5X47. That's a big heavy plate, but it hardly moves with that little 6BR.

Yes, Alpha makes BRA brass:
https://alphamunitions.com/product/6mm-bra/

However, Lapua is the gold standard for brass so I would fire form just to use Lapua brass. Once again, you fire form using regular BR loads so you aren't really sacrificing anything.

Good advice.

There is absolutely nothing to be scared of when fire forming. Do a little reading to build confidence.

I got a 6 GT from GA Precision here in KC.

I'd never reloaded or done and the only precision shooting prior too purchase was a friend let me shoot his custom 6.5 CM at his range and then he let me borrow it for a PRS match where I shot factory ammo.

Shot's #11, 12, and 13 down the barrel were 0.165" at 100 yards. That was just a break in load that my friend help me get set up with. Otherwise I've been using my dads old Rock Chucker and RCBS Dies. Went thru 4lbs of Varget last year and lucked into 8lbs of H4350 for this year.

People on the 6GT Facebook page are shooting about everything well thru it. So far Varget, H4350, Stabil 6.5 and one of the VhitaVhouri powders shoot really well thru it. It's very easy to develop an accurate load for and folks are shooting all kinds of bullets (Hornady ELDM 108, new 109's coming out soon, Burger 105's, Vtac 103's...)

Thanks for the response. Might go down this road. I am sure i will have a ton of questions in the mean time.

GA precision is a bad ass shop. I work in KC sometimes and have gotten a tour. Nice folks. The Gay Tiger is also on the table. Tempted to get it just because of the nick name haha

If you want to order the PPR you'll have to wait until next year when they begin pre-production orders. The 100 they released last fall for 2022 production sold out in about 2-week. That or pay a lot more for one.

The hot caliber at shotshow this year was 6mm Arc.
CactusThomas
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's because sh*tshow is sellers not buyers. Except Ruger, baretta and numerous others that no longer bother with that cluster.

Because it fits in an Ar15. Basically a 243 in an AR. Just slower. You can get 243 speeds in a bolt gun though.

Correct. Just an observation about shot show.

Well *****.. just bought an Impact 737 from DL Precision. Now the fun starts. Still can't decide on the caliber or stock. Either Foundation or go chassis route with MPA.

I get a discount on Proof prefits, so first barrel will probably be that. They offer the Dasher and Gay Tiger. Any preference there?
JeremiahJohnson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Picked up my Impact Action today. This thing is damn nice. Definitely a step up from my Defiance Tenacity on my deer rifle.

https://impactprecisionshooting.com/collections/actions/products/copy-of-impact-precision-737r-left-handed-w-308bf-balance-due

Just ordered the Foundation Genesis 2 (MG2) stock with Hawkins bottom metal.. Owner of Foundation is a lefty, so he had exactly what I wanted in stock.

https://foundationstocks.com/genesis-2-mg2/

Now on to barrels. 6 BR, 6BRA, GayTiger, Dasher are on the table. Any others that I should be looking at?

I know BR and GT are probably the easiest. But can use Lapua Brass with the BR, BRA and Dasher.

Looks like Alpha makes brass for the Gay Tiger and Dasher.

I have a Trigger Tech Diamond on my deer rifle and was thinking going with the same on this. Not sure what else I should look at.

It looks like I can find Dasher and GT barrels in stock. Any places I should look for prefits on the other calibers?
jpistolero02

That's going to be a sweet rig. I got my prefit 6BR barrel from Blue Mountain Precision in a week. Not sure what his lead times are right now. I am sure it also depends on what profile you want and what blanks he has in stock.

I took the time to do a seating depth test with my 6BR a few weeks back and that really helped. I ran the test at 700 yards and it followed the results Mark Gordon was seeing with the 105 Hybrid. I got the best results .060-.070 off the lands. Here are three shots from 100 yards with the load I settled on. So far it's holding sub half MOA out to 950 yards. That's the furthest I have shot to this point.

JeremiahJohnson

Hell yeah! Awesome shooting. I'll check them out.
CactusThomas
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You will love the Foundation. My only advice is since you mentioned Proof, stick with SS rather than cabron fiber.
jpistolero02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would also go SS since it appears you aren't going for lightweight.
JeremiahJohnson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
For sure on the steel. I have their CF on my hunting rifles. I have found their steel barrels available in some prefits
Agshooter05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Which powder are you planning to run? That could make a difference in caliber selection
JeremiahJohnson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would assume Varget. Assuming I can find some again.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Dasher shooter here. I went from 6XC and because I run an Impact action, just had a dasher barrel spun up for me this time and installed it myself. Those impact actions are awesome. Foundation stock and ZCO complete the package and it's a nice comp gun.

Specific to Dasher brass and powder… I'm trying to find the sweet spot w IMR 4166. I built this particular gun during the height of the great shortage, and IMR is all I could find. As far as brass, I went with Peterson Dasher Brass- no need to fireform. A bit pricey but worth it IMO.
Agshooter05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
1. That's a bold move to depend on being able to find Varget.
2. If you're shooting steel with Varget I prefer the BR family (BRA over BR over Dasher) but you can't go wrong with any of them. Load development is stupid easy with the BR family and you aren't having to constantly tune your rifle.
JeremiahJohnson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So if you don't think I can get Varget, should I not go for BRs? My dumb ass had some ordered a month ago and cancelled the order, bc I didnt have the rifle yet. My mystake.

What other powders are you using on the BRs? H4895?

I had seen people have success with Varget, 4350 and RL16 on the GTs.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Several years ago I decided I needed a precision rifle in 6mm. A family member high fenced his ranch and wanted me to help cull does. I wanted an accurate, low recoil rifle to use for the purpose. At the time I was spending a lot of time over at 6mmbr.com and was dizzy from all the chamber choices in 6mm. I ended up going with a boring old .243 Win. I had a 10 twist Krieger barrel screwed on a trued Rem 700 short action. My plan was to get an aftermarket trigger and a drop magazine conversion but the ranch was sold before I ever got a chance to cull a doe. The rifle was stuck in the safe where it has languished for probably 15 years. Recently I have noticed my go to pig/ deer rifle, a Shilen barreled 25-06 was giving up in the accuracy department. While trying to decide if I want to throw 700-800 at it for a rebarrel I drug the .243 out. I realized that the lowly .243 does not really give up much on the 25-06. I'm averaging almost 3250 fps with a 90 grain Speer over RL22 where I get the same velocity with a 110 in 25-06. Only downsides are it still has factory trigger and it's damn heavy.

You're just as lucky to find Varget as any of the others as it is all crazy hard to find right now. My two go to's for finding decent powder are powder valley & midsouth shooters. There are others but those are by far my two favorites. For any BR family you're good with either varget, 4895, N140, N150, RL 15.5. You can technically run 16 or 4350 but you're not going to get much over 2750 with a 105. I shoot Varget & N150 out of my BRA with 105's. If I could figure out how to post pics I would show you my load development from this last weekend.

I only fired four rounds on Saturday to get velocity, but I wasn't too far off from what you are seeing. Seems to be holding true because I am seeing very little vertical down range. This was the 6BR at 29.9 Varget.

105 hybrid?
jpistolero02

That's correct, 105 Hybrid. I am shooting a 26" 1:7.5 twist barrel.

Get away from my computer for 10 minutes and 8 lbs of Varget popped up on ammoseek. Missed it.

Ok here we go. Bought the parts for the start of this build. Went with 6 Dasher as I am impatient and found a barrel in stock. Really excited.

Impact 737 Action
Proof Research Steel Barrel in 6mm Dasher
Foundation Genesis 2 Stock
Hawkins M5 Bottom Metal
Trigger Tech Diamond Trigger
Area 419 Hellfire Brake
Full length Arca Rail
B&T Atlas Bipod

Almost identical to this rifle, but I am a lefty. Will probably put my Leica 5-30 PRS scope on it. Now just need to get a chronograph
