Steep.

I've been there. And that dang Roman ramp is steeper than it looks. You can still see the results of the catapults they built, drug up it, and bombarded the fortress with. Dang impressive.

That's that fort in Israel right? Did you hike that seige route?

Yeah, it's Masada. You don't hike the old ramp.
The modern access is on the left side of the pic. There is a log gondola, which is nice. There is also a trail to hike up, with LOTS of switchbacks. You can see the top of the gondola on the left, below the ruins bult into the cliff. You can see part of the switch backs below that. I did it in early spring, and it was a butt kicker. Can't imagine tourists trying it in the summer heat.

That whole place is an amazing visit. It overlooks the Dead Sea and the salt operations. Pretty amazing.

Take a ride over the Rainbow bridge from Bridge City to Pt. Arthur. Built in the 30's, 177' tall. Your ears pop near the top. Feels like you go straight up and straight down.

Your ears pop at 170' above sea level??

Grew up in the area and don't ever remember mine pooping
That's something you'd probably remember.

Steep.

Isn't that the lodge/resort in Westworld??

IRP OP: Idk what grade far west or ladera or jester are, but they all suck to run repeats on.

Would love to know the grade (prob 8%) on the side road coming down to the light in Henderson where you turn left toward Nacogdoches. Will never forget watching a truck coming downhill in the ice storm of Feb '89 with his wheels turned and brakes locked up that never made the turn at the bottom - ran straight through the curve and kept going

12 miles west of Lajitas it is 15%. Lajitas to Presidio is probably the most scenic drive in TX.
I've done River Road/Highway 170 several times on my Harley. It is an awesome ride and probably my favorite in Texas.

Me and two buddies biked the river road from Presidio to Lajitas as an alternative to doing another MS150 a few years ago. We were supposed to go all the way to Terilingua but I was out of gas after the climb then coasting into town. I can testify that's a steep @ss hill when you're pedaling. Beautiful country though.

The road out of Mogollon is steep and hairpin turns, no guardrail!

romans were some determined SOBs once you pissed them off.

built that road with no modern equipment, just animal power (human and beast).

We're from North California, and South Alabam

I was parked in almost that exact spot last week. Getting going uphill in a manual took some touchy clutch feathering.

I understand why Pittsburg has some of those roads, but they make no sense in LA - TMK, almost all of it was built after the advent of dynamite and bull dozers…
