Never tried this before. Is there anything special I should know about MSMA application and how tough is it on nearby trees?

No. Spray away. Hit my yard with it a month ago and it hammered the bad crap in my Bermuda.

Expect some temporary injury in this heat and also if this is for your yard it's an illegal off label application so I would probably ask in private.

Is there a difference in MSM and MSMA? I use MSM.

MSMA is a synthetic arsenic herbicide that used to be widely labeled for grass control. EPA removed all uses except for limited use in cotton, sod farms and ROW's It's claimed to be a danger to groundwater.

MSM is Metsulfuron Methyl an SU class of herbicide originally labeled as Ally. It's claim to fame is weed and brush control along with killing bahiagrass out of Bermuda. It's also a component of Pastora

It will take 3 apps each 7-14 days apart to actually kill the dallisgrass.

Chemist has some competition.

Worked a case about 8-10 years ago, just after registration expired on MSMA. Forgot he name of company, but the new formula included a new carrier and large landscaping company on west side of Houston had sprayed an entire development with it. Turned leaves on about 1200 live oak trees whiteish gray (typical symptom of arsenic damage on oaks) and most of those died over three to six month period. Sent tissue samples to lab up in Memphis that confirmed arsenic at toxic levels in foliage. Not sure if the carrier has since been changed-but I wouldn't spray around my oak trees.

Hmm, never heard of msm. Is it safer than MSMA? Will it work on kr bluestem? How is it around oak trees and other shrubs?

Bahia was the main target and it absolutely hammered it. Literally none is alive and my yard is solid bermuda (I live in the country). I hit my yard with Dimension every year, but this year it didn't work quite as good (weird weather year). Had a buddy recommend MSM and it definitely did the job.

For my yard, the Dimension and MSM combo with fertilizer has done wonders. Now I just need a sprinkler system for my 1.25 acre yard. Dragging sprinklers and hoses blows.

MSMA will still burn your Bermuda in this heat. It will recover though. It will decimate st augustine though.

Related question. Where do you find MSMA? A&M used to recommend a mix of 1T MSMA and 3 T Image to 1/2 gallon water for grassburrs but thought it was banned because it was arsenic based. Works great and seems more selective than Roundup which kills everything.

Nice. It's on my to do list as a lawn crew introduced st. augustine into my bermuda lawn and that **** is tenacious. Really spread with this relatively wet summer.

You can order it on amazon. I have a huge jug I ordered but I'm waiting for it to cool off before I use it. I have two areas of my yard where the dallisgrass is bad. The stuff that they sell in Home Depot I'm convinced you could pour it on your cereal and eat it. It doesn't do crap for weeds!

I ordered off of it doityourselfpestcontrol or something along those lines.

Can someone post a pic of dallisgrass. I may be suffering from an infestation myself.
