I hate to be morbid, but this has a mexican oil barrel feel to it.

I think the big mystery here is the dogs following his scent to the stock pond but not finding his body in the pond.

That throws a wrench into all the scenarios listed above.

Where the hell did he go from there? Could that have been scent dog error?
If you have ever followed a scent dog, its not 100% accurate. They can go all over the place and might not even be following a scent they are trained for, sometimes just take off in a direction they are just plain interested in.

This. I watched a lot of prison dogs work back when I was in the business. Some a better than others and not all dog handlers are created equal.

Realistically what are the odds wild pigs would have gotten to him before anyone else and "left no trace"? Seems extremely unlikely.

Don't know man, but if anyone knows a grad student looking for a project,

Letting a bunch of hogs devour a cadaver and documenting results seems like a worthwhile endeavor.

You could probably get grant money for that.

Yeah, that is why I think this is a case of "doesn't want anyone to find him"

Texas State University has a program in forensics. I don't know they still do it, but at one point they were looking for people to donate their corpses after death, and they would set them somewhere on the Freeman Ranch and let nature run its course. That way they had comparables when they needed to estimate how long bodies had been dead in the wild.

No offense, but that idea is fairly unbelievable, if you ask me. It's very, very difficult to just disappear, even with a lot of planning. You can't use phones, credit cards, ANYTHING connected to your past or your persona. Much more likely he's dead or maybe a slim chance he's unwillingly cut off from the world by someone(s) nefarious.

If you are driving a Nissan Maxima from San Marcos to Houston in the year 2020, theres no legitimate reason you should ever be on a dirt road …. much less several miles down a dirt road in a remote area.

There is no legitimate reason for those circumstances to occur.

Even if Landry made a wrong turn or his gps f***ed up or something like that. If you get off on a dirt road, you are gonna be looking for a place to turn around at the first opportunity.

He didn't do that though.

Why?

I can see getting lost on a paved road, but if you lost on a dirt road … you done f***ed up.

Thats the biggest hangup on this case for me. Why was Landry even remotely in the vicinity of where he wrecked at?

The fact that he ended up where he was at … what does that tell us?

Lastly, LE should have been able to subpoena data from big tech that would fill in the blanks. Has that happened, and if not, why?

Somebody knows more about this case than has been made public, imo.

Great episode of Dirty Jobs on this very topic. Don't remember the university, but pigs that were in various states of decomposition and the students were tested on them.

I watched a couple youtube videos today about guys who use sonar to find cars associated with missing people - in lakes and rivers. With some success. In the one video I watched today, the two guys scanned the very lake from which an teenager disappeared after a big party at the lake. The lakes not that big. It had already been sonar scanned by the authorities. Sure enough they find the car right there in the lake, and the body is inside.

Just because authorities say a pond has been cleared, doesn't mean it actually was.

I've watched those same videos. Great work they do to help bring closure for some of those families.

From the link...

Decomposing body discovered by Guadalupe River bridge

"It's bones," he said. "It's literally bones."

The corpse had no hair or easily discernible distinguishing features, Luna said. It was without clothes or identification leaving investigators with much to decipher, he said.

Jason's family posted they are aware of the body and that the medical examiner has the information needed to identify Jason. We'll see. Hopefully there's enough left to identify.

Well certainly a meet up then? Too long to go on foot given the conditions when he bailed from the car?

Bones would be about right. I recently found a deer that was gutshot last November. Nothing but the skull and hair. No skin.

dental records I imagine could lead to fast identification if it's him. Otherwise DNA.

Hopefully they can determine a cause of death.

Some people when experiencing cold, exposure and frost bite actually take off their clothes because they feel hot.

As already mentioned he didn't walk that far so I don't think the hypothermia angle works

They did, and it didn't.

I thought they said the data couldn't be released/requested (geofencing ??) because a crime hadn't been committed??

They were able to get info off his phone which didn't reveal anything they didn't know (or at least what's been made public is nothing new).

They can't get the geofence warrant for other phones in the area without proof a crime was committed because it violates the 4th amendment. I believe if they get credible evidence someone was riding in the passenger seat, they can check that name/number against phone records from that night. If they find a body, they might be able to get the geofence warrant but they seemed less sure on that.

Might've just hung out around the car, gotten hypothermia, then stripped as he was walking away in a delirious state.....

Anyone that is ready to quote/reply to this and fire off a well reasoned rebuttle, save your time. I'm being facetious.

I think it means whatever evidence they have found didn't ever take them to that location, so if Jason was found there it would be surprising.

I've seen hogs work over a fresh hog carcass in a night. Found a skull a hundred yards away and a few other bones scattered.
