So I bought a Polaris Ranger XP 1000 and looking to get a trailer. I was thinking of one with the flip down ramp, but wasn't sure if the weight of the ATV would bend it and should just go with the slide out ramps. Anyone have any issues with the flip down ramp?

No issue with a flip down. Thats with the 5 seater model.

Most trailers with flip down ramps are specifically made with ATV's / utv's in mind.

That's all I ever use.

That's what I was figuring but wanted to be sure. Thank you!

My father in law built me one for Christmas and put a hella heavy duty gate on it with the gorilla lift system on it. It's pretty sweet. Can drive a skid steer on the gate without any damage and can still lift the gate with three fingers.

I need one of those lol

I prefer slide outs... Those ramps catch a crazy about of air/ turbulence in my experience.

Borrowed one for a move several years ago and my F150 w/ 5L V8 got worse mileage with the empty trailer than loaded.

I've had this same experience. Crazy how much wind an expanded metal ramp can catch.

Adding to that, the single axle trailers can really get squirrely with the wind resistance. They are much less stable anyway vs a dual axle. Plus, if you have a flat on a dual axle, you can possibly continue driving.

I use a fold down gate for mine, no problems, one is a six seater the other is a 5

Agreed, I'm looking for a dual axle.

I would recommend one with a dove tail and short gate. They catch far less wind. I cut mine in half and made it a fold out. Made a big difference on fuel mileage. If you plan on hauling a lawnmower I would stay away from the slide ramps. The angle is too steep for the mowing deck a lot of times.
Edit: mine is 6x12 and it holds a 1000xp. That's it though. No problem with single axle.

That's slick. I need to do this to mine.

Also forgot that any flip down gate you buy will NOT have supports where your tires go and that will be a problem. When you shop them, tell them you want supports added at your wheelbase. You can see the ones I added on mine.

I really like that gate! I saw a guy on the duck club that had a similar one but had heavy duty hood struts on it for lowering it. I thought that was a cool addition.

I have a single axle, tilt trailer. No ramps needed at all. Its the best solution in my opinion and doesn't effect gas mileage too much.

Get a dual axle with a fold down ramp, if you get the solid one like I have get ready for a tremendous loss of MPG as others have said. Ramps are heavy and a pain, but whatever the price difference is between the solid tailgate ramp and the fold down one you will more than make up for in gas/diesel if you use your trailer several times a year.

I have a tandem 14' ranch king with slide outs and brakes. Also has a dovetail which is kind of handy every once in a while not sure if I would buy that again. Wouldn't change to a ramp love the versatility of the slide outs. Can carry material longer than trailer with slide outs. Slide outs are a pain with the utv but found I use the trailer all the time and would say only 25% of the time for the utv.

Only regret is I would have gone atleast 16'. Got a deal on a special order someone didn't pick up so can't complain too much.

I have a dove tail. It does catch some wind but it is really handy.

Definitely looking for 16 foot. Figure I can always use the extra space.

Texas Trailer Supply in spring. They are cheap but the trailers are cheap as well. I didn't care because I have the means to fix things that break. They were good because I could do add one. I had a swivel jack put on which I highly recommend. Also the tires that anyone gives you are crap. You'll want to replace those after a year or two.

If you're still in the market, I have a perfect one for you. I bought it at the dealership to bring my home and do not require it any longer. It is a Top Hat with ramps, tandem axle, and has electronic breaks.

I'm interested if the OP isn't.

Thanks.

I bought a 12' single axle and every time i use it wish I had went ahead and bought the 16' with double axle.
The longer expanded metal ramp is handy but it does cause drag I've noticed others that use a shorter ramp

I have a tandem axle 14' I bought with a gate. The gate is really handy and convenient, but the drawback to any gate is that you are limited to only the length of the trailer on things you can haul. Removable ramps, while not as easy and convenient, leave the back of the trailer open for anything longer to overhang without any issue.

If you are 100% certain you'll never haul anything longer than your trailer, the gate is the way to go. As it stands, I wish I had removable ramps and no gate on mine. Or that my trailer was at least a 16 footer.

What exactly will I be looking to replace or fix by purchasing one of these? Seems like a decent deal on what they emailed me back, so just curious.

Pretty sure that is the brand of my trailer - first thing you'll need to do is secure the wiring for the lights as it is minimally secured at best. The decking is not treated, so it's going to rot out within a few years (just replaced mine). The factory tires are the cheapest they could find, I've replaced mine already as well after a couple of years.

Outside of that, its not a bad trailer IMO. Angle iron all around, the welds are good, not the heaviest gauge of angle but sufficient for me carting my buggy around, my little tractor around and using it to occasionally haul materials and what not.

I had looked at adding the bulldog hitch, treated wood, brakes, and radial tires. I think that was about it if I remember correctly. I have plenty of used oil laying around so soaking the boards after they dry out some would work well too. I'll keep that in mind about the wiring.

Basically things like schmellba99 said. I had a bulldog hitch and swivel jack installed. My buddy bought one at the same time as me and his spare tire mount fell off (with the tire) going down the road. The gate latch pipes aren't perfectly aligned. You just need to inspect every weld that you can see before purchasing or signing. I have a fab shop so I wasn't too concerned.

Thanks for the advice. I don't want that windcatcher, so I'm going with regular ramps. Probably will have to figure out a way to weld them under the rear so they can slide out or have someone else do it. Worse case, just throw them in the back of the truck for the time being when I drag it.
