Todd,

Mesquites used to whip my tail. Not any more.

This stuff seals up to 1/2" punctures:

Ultraseal Bulletproof Grade Tire Sealant

Of course, it costs 4 times as much as Slime, but who can put a price tag on not having flats when you have to deal with our friend, the mesquite?

Are you putting this in UTV tires preemptively? Got a new Polaris and was going to find some Ultraseal
Only problem I see with that product is that it is made for 25mph or less. While out on the lease, I don't get above 25 very often. But around the neighborhood is a different story.

Personally, I scrap the stock 6 ply tires for 10 ply, and Kevlar is better if you can find these days. Then put slime

Yeah. I imagine they're concerned about creating a wheel balance issue at higher speeds. What I don't know is exactly how fast you'd have to go to experience it.

You cut the bead out. You can't go very fast or it will sling the cover tire off, but I have shredded hundreds of acres of mesquite like that and never got a flat. FYI, mesquite just comes back thicker but I did what the boss said.

That's what I always heard, a trimmed bush grows back thicker.

So far, I've only used it in my front tractor tires.

I do have a third-hand 30 year old Honda ATV with (2) original front tires that are cracked to hell, slowly leaking, and which I've had to epoxy close some small rust holes in the rims, but I'm going to wait until I buy a couple of new tires before I put any Ultraseal in them.

Based on my experience with the tractor and the mesquite and honey locust thorns I've seen Ultraseal laugh at, I'm pretty confident that it will seal just about anything.

One problem -- after several years of warfare and clearing I've finally eradicated from my place almost all of the mesquite and locust, so I don't have the 'pleasure' of seeing Ultraseal work like I used too.

what are you using on the honey locust?

I use the same chemical mixture I use for mesquite, which is 1 pint of Remedy (61% triclopyr) added to a gallon of diesel oil. {Note that A&M recommends you use a quart rather than a pint, but I've been very pleased with the lesser concentration}.

I spray it basally all around the lower trunk from the ground up to about a foot. That can be tricky from an ATV sprayer being around all those thorns, but it's doable.

In 2-3 weeks time, the honey locust begins to show signs of distress and you know it will soon be getting what it deserves for being such a wicked plant.

Before I got rid of the last of mine, I cut off a small piece of branch with some particularly medieval-looking long-assed thorns on it and I now keep it on the bookshelf at my office. Those thorns are hard as nails and would go clear though my wrist, given the opportunity, but I'm sure you're more than familiar with them if you've got some on your place.

Mentioned above, but my $.02.

We bought a 1947 John Deere R Diesel in 1984 that had been used by a distant neighbor for shredding for the last 30+ years. i loved to feel the pony motor start that old beast to breathing. It would shake the ground and the blue smoke would burn your nose. It had a brush guard/bumper on the front and if you could push it over, the brush hog shredder would chop it up and throw chunks an pieces everywhere,

We had 36 ply airplane tires on the front. In the several years I used it, we never had a flat on the front.

The rear tires were "doubled" as mentioned above. I believe the "inner" or original tires were 13.4X28. The "outer" tires were something like a 16.4X 32 or 34 with the bead cut out so it could be worked over the inner tire just as you would mount a tire on a rim. We did actually have one flat that I remember - stepdad ran over a stob in just the right way. Tire guy fussed and cussed for a couple of hours to put a boot in the inner tire and get it all back together.

This tractor was used exclusively for shredding.

I worked for a neighbor that had a Ford Jubilee tractor he used for shredding. We would take the regular tires off and replace all four with airplane 36 ply tires. Made for one hell of a rough ride on those flint rock hills, but never a flat.

They make solid tires for skid steer, i would bet there is a solid available in some tractor sizes no that would eliminate the whole problem.

There was a tire shop in Encinal where we took tires. Their guy would pop one side off then scoop all the slime into 5 gallon buckets. After repair he would ask if you wanted and scoop a couple cupped hands worth beck in before seating. Pretty funny to watch.
