Use my tractor a lot in mesquite country. Took a chance and dumped slime in the tires after I picked up a few thorns. No luck. They just keep going flat.

Finally gave in and replaced the tires. It was a damn mess!

Slime has always worked for me with mesquite thorns...are you sure you don't have another problem?

Not anymore. I've got clean rims and two new tires.

I have found they will seal the schrader valve as well as holes on my lawn tractor and bicycle. Not a fan any more.

Todd,

Mesquites used to whip my tail. Not any more.

This stuff seals up to 1/2" punctures:

Ultraseal Bulletproof Grade Tire Sealant

Of course, it costs 4 times as much as Slime, but who can put a price tag on not having flats when you have to deal with our friend, the mesquite?

I'd guess some months ago she did. She appears to have birthed his tractor baby on the floor of that shop there.

Multi Seal works great, too.

I met the factory rep for Slime at an outdoor show a couple of years back. He says the most common reason for the Slime not to work correctly is one of two things: One is that people use way to much in a tire as most folks think more is better but he said it actually prevents it from setting to the right consistency in the tire. Secondly is he said it is really important to keep shaking the jug to keep the ingredients mixed correctly when filling the tire.

This reminds me of the scene in men in black when that lady births an alien baby in the car

What a response to read first thing in the morning. Trying not to wake anybody from laughing. Blue parachute for you.

Put it in the ice machine.

My FIL has a tire installed over the tire for mowing mesquite. No slime. Just more rubber.

I'm having trouble visualizing a tire installed over a tire? How is that even possible?

Remember in HS the "2 condoms" idea started.

Curious as well...I'm guessing it's not sealed, just a loose fitting tire over the real tire, would make steering a PITA

Yep, my dad did this also.... on the front tires only. I never witnessed the process of stretching a tire over the existing front tractor tire.

I think if I was going to try that, I would first look at the airplane tire possibility.

When I was growing up, we shredded nearly our whole pasture yearly or every two years. We were still getting occasional flats. I remember when I drove over a sharp stump and it punctured the rear tire. Today I dont even hook up my shredder but spend that time and effort spraying mesquites instead.

We use airplane tires on our tractor that pulls mesquite, think they are 20 ply or something like that. Expensive but worth it.

Gensco Tire in Wharton for aircraft tires. I also have foamed my tires...heavy and pretty expensive.

You cut the bead out. You can't go very fast or it will sling the cover tire off, but I have shredded hundreds of acres of mesquite like that and never got a flat. FYI, mesquite just comes back thicker but I did what the boss said.

Todd,

We have a JD 4044M 4WD tractor we use in heavy mesquite and pear for brush control. Run a PTO driven 200 gallon sprayer for sendero and other herbicides. There was a thread on this topic a few years ago and someone mentioned (and swore by) liquitube. I do my research and due diligence before buying, and this stuff is legit.

https://liquitube.com

Check it out, this is the solution for you. We used standard liquid tube in the front tires and then used liquid ballast in the rear tires to serve as both ballast and sealant (you mix the liquitube ballast with water and it serves as ballast and permanent sealant). It was expensive to do all that set up (4 tires, ballast too), cost us around 750.00 if I remember correctly. But you put it in once and it's guaranteed for the life of the tire.

This product has been excellent. Helps maintain tire pressure and it will not corrode your rims like slime will.

+1 for Ultraseal from Gempler's. I've been using the Extreme grade in all of the tires at the ranch for three years now. Still have to add air every now and then but they are just slow leaks at worst.

In the good old days(and pre-steel radials), you would fold up and stuff a worn-out smaller tire inside the existing tire, bead and all. The fit had to be right and it took some muscle, but forget about flats.
I don't think you know me.

Gensco Tire in Houston would be another option. They sell aircraft tires. I've used them for years and they are pretty much thornproof.

Foamed tires work well also.

Unfortunately it does absolutely nothing for antlers. I checked.

That green Slime that most places sell is not as good as many others. I think that I've also found that the green slime freezes and "dies". Several times in early days of my Polaris all tires would have the cheap green Slime and holding good. Head out to hunt on a freezing morning and have multiple tires flat. Ultra Seal does not do this, or had not done this to me yet, anyway.

My ag tire guy in Hondo says they send a lot of wheel tire combos out for foaming now. I've been seriously considering this option. Has anyone ever had a tire foam filled? I always heard about broken axles and spindles but he says that's not really an issue with modern foam. Any experience?

Are you putting this in UTV tires preemptively? Got a new Polaris and was going to find some Ultraseal

NM. didn't realize this was a bump and the Men in Black reference had already been made.

dirt bike and atv races often use foam (Mousse).

for a racer, it has advantages and disadvantages. The main drawback is that you can adjust pressure for different conditions. Less of an issue in ag or hunting applications I think.
