Tell me what you know. Let me learn from your mistakes. They are coming back in 2 weeks now.

I have an Omega in jail.

I want a 22lr can for a Walther P22 that I would also want to shoot mag through. If I can get the same can in 2 weeks it would be well worth it. I have access to equipment. I read the Form 1 boards and all I see is a pissing match.

I want to shoot **** in my back yard without the neighbors getting wind of what I am doing.

They are cheaper to build than to buy, although that benefit starts getting lost on .22 cans. They will be heavier than a commercial can. I have two that I built, a 9mm and a .30 cal can. Both perform well. I used SDTA for parts, because I like their muzzle devices. For a .22, I would probably just go direct thread.

The other thread that was getting trolled mentioned most of the home builts being lighter?

There is the potential to go lighter, depending on your design skill, and more importantly machining capabilities (both skill and tools).

Most of the "kits" are designed to be able to complete with a drill press, and they end up beefier than they really need to be, just because 99.9% of people (including me) don't have a bench top lathe or mill.

My experience at the link below. With .22 you can utilize aluminum for cost and weight savings.

Is there any advantage with Form 1 vs Form 4 in terms of wait time?

.22 is probably the exception in weight.

Form 1's had been running 2-6 weeks prior to the recent insanity. I am sure the ATF is sitting at home getting paid to watch pornhub, rather than approving stamps right now, so I presume stamps are not getting processed.

With a .22 you can go all aluminum and weight should be relatively comparable to a Form 4 can. Only real difference might be in the diameter - some of the higher end Form 4 cans can get pretty skinny, whereas the Form 1 kits tend to be either C cell or D cell sized because that is what most of the standard stuff out there conforms to.

I have a D cell sized Form 1 can for my 10/22 - it's light enough that I don't notice it at all on the gun. Probalbly would notice it on a pistol, but I didn't build it for a pistol either and could shrink it up significantly if I wanted and likely see no reduction in performance.

Form 1 advantages are that they are way, way, way faster than Form 4's in terms of stamp approval. Kits are all over the place and you can play around with the guts to see what you like best.

If you buy parts from SDTA or a similar company, what tools are required to finish one of these?

Mostly just a drill press. Hell, a vice and a hand drill can work in a pinch too.

Depends. If you are using freeze plugs and want to shape them into cones you need a jig and a hydraulic press.

Jig and a vice works, requires a tad more effort but works (I've done it). Or you can buy pre-formed freeze plugs and drill them out.

But with a .22 can, you can also buy the kits that have aluminum baffles that require nothing more than drilling the center bore out and maybe minimal file work to get a good snug internal fit.

All over. Look for "solvent traps"

SD Tactical and Diversified Machine are 2 of the more reputable brands.

My first Form 1 can was SDTA tube/encaps/muzzle brake with DM baffles and spacers.

Where do you get the baffles or freeze plugs from? I can't find those listed on websites. Just the tubes and end caps.

I don't know how I would feel about using aluminum for anything but .22.

I documented my first Form 1 build on this thread to help give people an idea of the process. I've done two now, and about to begin a third. Once you get an understanding of the process, it gets WAY easier to repeat. And in instead of waiting a year on a can, you can start making it in a couple of weeks.

Did you do a trust and who set it up for you (if you did)
maverick2076

I have a trust. I used the online one available through Capitol Armory. I believe it was drafted by Jim Willi. I like it and have had no issues.

Thank you. I have a 24" heavy profile barrel on one of my AR uppers that's a dedicated bench rifle. I either keep the really light triggered lower on it for my own use, or stick the carbines collapsing stock and heavier triggered lower for new/younger shooters. The rifle is already heavy enough to be impractical for anything besides a target gun anyway..... may look in to a form 1 can, I do have access to a lathe.

Do we know if they're actually processing stamps right now?
A.G.S.
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No idea if they are processing now or not. Waiting for this wonderful economic uncertainty to blow over before I petition the Minister of War and Finance for project budgets.

They are probably at home cranking one out as Mr. Dubi said though.

Is the mount end on the monocore fully threaded? My curiosity is piqued that it could be used for a 22 or 9mm reflex suppressor on a ported barrel...

Yes, fully threaded, just have to drill out the end cap. I run them on a .22 pistol and a .204 Ruger.

They ship from China. It's that easy. I wouldn't stick one on a .300 Wby Mag, but for smaller calibers, I dig 'em.

The ATF has been seizing solvent trap kits in ports since around December for this very reason. Any of those from his link should work. They may not be the Cadillac of Form 1 cans, but they will definitely put a smile on your face when you pull the trigger.

I'd like to check these out. Any advice on baffles vs monocore? Does one work better than the other? Is it a weight vs performance thing?

I bought some pre-formed stainless freeze plugs off of Ebay when I replaced my guts. Guy has a jig and presses them, all I had to do was chuck them up in the lathe and center bore them out. Was easier to do that than buy the freeze plugs and die myself. No issues at all, and considering how hard it was to find any stainless freeze plugs in stock anywhere as it was - made for a much easier and faster time.

I don't think SD Tactical sells the kits anymore, they have moved to full Form 4 suppressor fabrication and I think they shut down their side that sold parts and pieces for the most part. Last time I looked on there they had very little in terms of kit components.
