Me too.

A buddy of mine had one, used it all the time, and loved it....so I got one too. It's been fantastic so far.

They run promotions fairly often, so keep checking with their website until you see one.

If you are willing to pay the $ you can't beat a Cookshack Fast Eddie Pellet Grill PG1000. P500 is about $1K cheaper but different set of features... www.cookshack.com

Have had my PG1000 for almost 10 years and has never failed me...

Right now it's $487, pretty good deal

Got a Rec Tec RT-590 earlier this month, the thing is built like a tank. Have grill hamburgers, smoked a brisket some chickens and baby back ribs so far, all had a solid dose of smoke.

Not sure if the other brands are using a PID temperature controller but the temperature just doesn't move (unless of course, you open the lid). Over the time it took to smoke a brisket there were a few little temperature wiggles by maybe 1 or 2 degrees.

I thought the WIFI stuff would be kind of hokey but being able to sit in the house and watch the internal temperature and the temperature of the meat was actually pretty nice. Even went to the store and could tell everything was still ok.

I called customer service a couple of times with questions and they were very helpful. One of the calls was after hours, didn't leave a message, they called me back the next day because they saw they had a missed call from me.

So far nothing but positives. The only negative was I forgot to remove the grease drip bucket and my dog pretty much destroyed it trying to get the grease out.

Good thing is that RecTec has a very good "dog"warranty.

I've had to replace two different cords thanks to my dog and all RecTec has asked in return is a picture of my lab pup!

Sometimes they run 2/1 deals on their high end grills/smokers.

They work really well.

This is all of interest to me since I sold my offset and am now trying to figure out what the hell kind of wood is good for smoking in northwestern Montana. It appears alder is the go-to.

I'd prefer to find an offset up here, but definitely considering a pellet smoker for the ease of being able to buy fuel at the Walmart that's an hour away. We'll see what happens.

+1 for Mak. My 2 star general is the best purchase I've made in the last decade. Bought it in 2013 and been smoking regularly ever since.

Camp Chef with a sear box. Love the pellet but also can go quick grills.

I have the same set up, works like a champ.
I have the same set up as well. Reverse seared steaks are the only way to go. You can't beat their price and customer service either. They now have a WiFi controller.
Another Camp Chef Woodwind with Sear Box. I've had it for three years and the only issue I ever had was my own damn fault. Perfect setup for reverse sear.

These guys used to make trager smokers, right? Which model did y'all buy? Seem reasonably priced compared to shelling out for a trager.

I've got a 10 lbs bone-in ribeye roll from The Meat Board in Fort Worth on my Green Mountain Grill Jim Bowie right now.

I did a good amount of research and am very happy with GMG.

They did.

I believe mine is the 700e. It's great.

I waited until it was on sale... it was less than 500, and free shipping.

Anyone own a Yoder YS640s? That thing looks like a tank. I've been thinking of getting a pellet grill and this one has caught my eye.

About how many hours of smoke do you get with the 20 pound pellet limit?
AgGrad99

The other day I smoked a brisket for about 8-9 hours at 225ish...and it used about half.

Doubt it. Probably have to come into Houston. They are nice but don't know if they are worth 2X or more what others go for.

I've had my Green Mountain Jim Bowie for a few years now, and have been very pleased with it except for a few issues. First the WiFi capability sucks, but then again I was an early adopter and figured it would not be as good as advertised. I finally gave up on it, but I would assume all the kinks have been worked out of it by now. Second the temp probe for the controller is not accurate, and I ruined a few briskets before I figured it out. Now I always use an external thermometer to monitor the grill temp as the internal thermometer is off by about 100 degrees or sometimes more at higher temps. Other than these two issues, I really have enjoyed my GMG Jim Bowie.

I love my Pitts and Spitts and I don't even have the new awesome controller they've been using the last couple years.

I have one...I love it. My only complaint is that the paint occasionally needs some touching up, but as far as cooking on it goes...it's great.

The Traeger 34 (Gen1) is on sale for $699 at BBQGuys. I have this smoker, and I really like it.

Also, some McCoy's carry Traeger pellets. They are $12/bag at the Bryan location.

I think it's official. Looks like I'm the only poor man left on the OB. Still Rockin' my Old Smokey with some B&B.

Just not price.

It is a Weber though.

Haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger, either.

Just worried the smoke flavor won't be there

I had that concern too, but I have been able to get really good smoke flavor. I also appreciate the ease. I can smoke while doing other things and not worry about checking temps.

I have a good friend that broke down and bought a Pitts and Spitts. Everything I've had off it has been excellent.

My major hang up is 1 cost then 2 I don't have a covered area to store a pit of that size at the moment.

This thread has got the itch started again for-sure.

If you compare it to comparable Traeger's, it actually less. And like you said, it's Weber.

Very unscientific here, but I'd guess you get 80% of the smoke flavor as a traditional stick burner, but obviously way less effort. I don't have a covered area either and just bought the cover from Camp Chef. Mine is holding up just fine through 2+ years of Houston outdoors. I'll probably need a new cover next year.
