Add a smoke tube for longer smokes to increase your flavor. I do it for pretty much any long smoke.
Actually I think it may be the other way around. This was the first time I've used a pellet grill (Rec Tec), we have always used traditional stick burners when smoking meat. I can honestly say I have never seen such a deep and uniform smoke ring before (on a brisket). Giving the meat the sniff test and there was a definite smoke smell even on the sliced pieces. I could definitely taste the smoke flavor even more so on thin meat sections (baby backs).CowtownAg06 said:
Very unscientific here, but I'd guess you get 80% of the smoke flavor as a traditional stick burner, but obviously way less effort. I don't have a covered area either and just bought the cover from Camp Chef. Mine is holding up just fine through 2+ years of Houston outdoors. I'll probably need a new cover next year.

So is the OB pretty much sold on pellet smokers over kamodos?
Leaning toward Camp Chef with sidekick or the new Weber

The smell and taste tests are definitely unscientific observation but the smoke ring was clearly evident. I really wish I would have taken a picture of the brisket I had done.
I'm seeing all kinds of reviews on YouTube on the Weber Smoke Fire now that they are available.....and the initial results aren't good.AgsMnn said:Proc92 said:
Weber just came out with their pellet grills. Looks like they will be competitive in the space.

Just not price.
It is a Weber though.
Need some advice. Was going to pull the trigger on the rec tec 700 after seeing the reviews on weber smokefire. However, the wife would like me to buy something more bang for the buck (cheaper). Currently building a house, and we have gone a litttttle overbudget.P.U.T.U said:
I was waiting for reviews on the Weber before pulling the trigger, yeah it does not look like a good initial release. Probably will go with a Rec Tec

I was looking at buying a green mountain grill, but not sure how good of quality it is. Obviously not as good as the rec tec. My question is, how big of a difference does it make? I currently own a gas grill a friend gave me after he got a pit boss for his birthday. Mainly just grill steaks and chicken, but looking to expand my horizons with a pellet grill. I know full well probably any pellet grill is better than this darn gas grill I have, but I want something that will last, is reliable, and consistently grills well. Don't see myself grilling for more than 9 people that often.

One question I haven't seen really addressed is noise. I was watching a Youtube review on a Pit Boss the other day, and the noise was definitely noticeable. How loud is the fan on these things? Will I have pissed off neighbors if I start one of these up at the wee hours of the morning?
Not sure what Youtube you were watching but mine is not noisy at all, especially not to piss off neighbors!Maximus_Meridius said:
