Add a smoke tube for longer smokes to increase your flavor. I do it for pretty much any long smoke.

I've cooked on and sold quite a few brands and models. We currently sell Yoder, Memphis, and Twin Eagles. All are good but in the black cart models Yoder is the best around. In stainless the twin eagles is the Ferrari of all grills.

Yoder has a griddle insert, grill grates for searing at 700 degrees, built in fireboard wifi app, heavy duty, great fit and finish, and great design.

Let me know if we can quote for you. Service @ Creekstone Outdoors dot com

Very unscientific here, but I'd guess you get 80% of the smoke flavor as a traditional stick burner, but obviously way less effort. I don't have a covered area either and just bought the cover from Camp Chef. Mine is holding up just fine through 2+ years of Houston outdoors. I'll probably need a new cover next year.
Actually I think it may be the other way around. This was the first time I've used a pellet grill (Rec Tec), we have always used traditional stick burners when smoking meat. I can honestly say I have never seen such a deep and uniform smoke ring before (on a brisket). Giving the meat the sniff test and there was a definite smoke smell even on the sliced pieces. I could definitely taste the smoke flavor even more so on thin meat sections (baby backs).

The smell and taste tests are definitely unscientific observation but the smoke ring was clearly evident. I really wish I would have taken a picture of the brisket I had done.

So is the OB pretty much sold on pellet smokers over kamodos?

Leaning toward Camp Chef with sidekick or the new Weber

Just an FYI, the smoke ring on a brisket has almost nothing to do with the actual amount of smoke it gets during a cook. I'm not saying you cant get a good smoke from a pellet grill, just dont be fooled by cosmetic results only.

Good read. Additional info on smoke I learned from listening to Chad Ward at Whiskey Bent BBQ is that once the internal temp of the meat hits about 140, the meat no longer takes on any more smoke. He talks a lot about the myoglobin as well.

Weber just came out with their pellet grills. Looks like they will be competitive in the space.

Just not price.

It is a Weber though.
I'm seeing all kinds of reviews on YouTube on the Weber Smoke Fire now that they are available.....and the initial results aren't good.

Grease fires, pellet feed issues, ash collection, etc.

Kind of disappointing for a Weber product.

Yep. Seems like they put out a flawed product. Too bad.

I was waiting for reviews on the Weber before pulling the trigger, yeah it does not look like a good initial release. Probably will go with a Rec Tec

Need some advice. Was going to pull the trigger on the rec tec 700 after seeing the reviews on weber smokefire. However, the wife would like me to buy something more bang for the buck (cheaper). Currently building a house, and we have gone a litttttle overbudget.

I was looking at buying a green mountain grill, but not sure how good of quality it is. Obviously not as good as the rec tec. My question is, how big of a difference does it make? I currently own a gas grill a friend gave me after he got a pit boss for his birthday. Mainly just grill steaks and chicken, but looking to expand my horizons with a pellet grill. I know full well probably any pellet grill is better than this darn gas grill I have, but I want something that will last, is reliable, and consistently grills well. Don't see myself grilling for more than 9 people that often.

Get the smaller rec tec to save money. I have a 680 and can fit 2 large briskets at a time on the standard grate.

I own a RECTEC and love it. That being said, the green mountain will do you just fine.

Make your wife happy now and take care of the new house. Plenty of time to upgrade to later.

Congrats on the new home.

I have the RecTec Stampede, which I believe is a 590? That thing is money.

So much more you can do even with a small Yoder YS480S and would fit two briskets.

2 pc diffuser allows for easy cleaning and searing over fire at 600+ degrees. 700 with grill grates.

Low temp range at 140 degrees

15lb hopper

Griddle insert option - heavy duty cast iron.

WiFi controller using FireBoard technology

Heavier built than rectec, traeger, green mountain, broil king etc.

Not sure what the hell weber was thinking. We looked at design 6 months ago and laughed because they have no grease management at all. It was obvious the dang thing was gonna burn up. Crazy that a company that size doesn't do more testing and development.

We recently had an outdoor kitchen built and went with a Memphis built-in unit. I really like it although I had to change out the control module. The place I bought it has been great and recently replaced it for me. The new control module appears to be working well and the few times I used it, I really liked it

The thing I have read about the Green Mountain is some people say they have rust issues in humid environments. The Rec Tec is $899 which is within $100 of the other Wifi units. I say if you are wanting to buy once buy the Rec Tec 590 or whatever. Or if you want to start playing around trying to figure out what you want the Z Grills that is around $500 and get wifi monitoring (cannot change anything remotely) or get the non-wifi Camp Chef units and buy the wifi control unit for around $200 when you have the money.

I was talking to my wife about grills and she said what is $200 or so when you consider using the thing several times a week for 5+ years.

Yep we sell Memphis and Twin Eagles in the stainless built in segment. Both are great grills! We have had a few memphis issues with controllers but they are great at shipping replacements.

Thanks to everyone for your informative responses. I ended up buying the new Cuisinart firecreek 4 in 1 pellet grill. I have used it about 10 times so far and really love it. Check out utube for the reviews on it. Insulated lid holds temp well and cooks very evenly all the way across it. Will be glad to answer any questions.

After owning the Rectec for a month I am sold, had to go to the inlaws and part of the cooking process was taking the meat from 180F smoke to 350F cook and did that on my phone. Pretty hard to mess things up too badly.

One question I haven't seen really addressed is noise. I was watching a Youtube review on a Pit Boss the other day, and the noise was definitely noticeable. How loud is the fan on these things? Will I have pissed off neighbors if I start one of these up at the wee hours of the morning?

My Rec Tec is about as loud as a box fan and constant. No worries about neighbors

Almost had my pit boss 2 years and still going strong. No issues and we use the hell out of it. Cook on it at least once a week.

We've had ours about a year and a half maybe and cook on it 2-3 days a week. Just to damn easy to not use.

Not sure what Youtube you were watching but mine is not noisy at all, especially not to piss off neighbors!
