I've used diesel + remedy with great success in a backpack pump sprayer on honey locusts (**** those devil trees!) on our land in Hopkins county. To up my game, has anyone ever run diesel through an ATV mounted battery powered pressure sprayer or will I destroy it?

TIA!

I love hl. It makes up a small percentage of our forest. It has a naturally low water content and grows to about 18 to 24 in diameter then dies. After a year all the bark and spikes fall off. Super easy to spot so we cut them up, split 'em, and stack to burn immediately. They make excellent firewood.

If you are a wood worker the grain and colors are beautiful.

But, I have been spiked clear to the skull so I do understand your position.

Yes, and yes.

The cheap tanks probably come with some kind of nbr or vinyl hose. It softens it but still works for the season.

Nitrile will hold up to diesel, Viton would be better for resistance to chemical attack by the oils in the chemical.

We have sprayed mesquite w ATVs and pumps for years. Viton seals are ideal. Don't get a plastic handled spray wand. A 20-25 gallon tank works great on a 4 wheeler. Don't go bigger.

You must empty and clean your pump after each use with a good detergent and water. Also, make sure the pump is a demand pump. If it runs all the time it will kill your ATV battery in a few hours. We also run them off of a deep cycle 12 volt marine battery directly and recharge that battery every night. HTH.

I have had luck using Sendero also on Locust trees depending on the size.

This and Fimco makes one that has good hoses. The key is using neutralizer and cleaner and flushing it well.

I probably did not clean the sprayer as good as I should have. I found that diesel finally ate up the O rings.

Try this. I used it to spray my fence lines and anything that your average herbicide would not kill. I mixed it in hundred gallon batches so you will have to adjust the recipe.

One gallon of Remedy
One gallon of Tordon
Some surfactant
One hundred gallons of water

Spray the bad boys and come back in two weeks. You will be surprised.

You can use cooking oil for emultion formation to avoid messing with diesel. Add a bit of Cimmeron ( stuff for Bahia grass ) and you'll be good.

I'm going to price bulk cooking oil at Sams when I go next and see if I can make it work.

Me either. But, I've been using the same 15-gallon FIMCO sprayer (with a 2.1 GPM demand pump) for years with diesel and Remedy (61% triclopyr) and all I ever do is flush it real well with water and run the pump dry when I'm done and I've never had any equipment problems.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't use neutralizer/cleaner, but that I never have and flushing with water and running dry has worked well for me. YMMV.

For me flushing is this -- Add 1 gallon of water to the residue, then spray that out on something I want to 'control'. Then I add another 10 gallons of water and let it drain out of the tank while I run the pump and spray wand dry.

And BottleRocket -- I agree with you, those honey locusts are beyond belief. I had mostly mesquites to contend with, but the Lord threw in a few honey locusts to let me know how bad things could have been.

I still keep a small branch I cut off from one of those things in my office just to marvel at what a truly wicked thorn structure looks like!

Why wouldn't you just use basal oil instead?

I have been using 1.25 Gallons of RM43 to 1 qt of Remedy in a 45 gallon tank with water and dish soap the last couple of years. Does the trick on mesquites and fence lines.

No reason. Just pick what's cheapest that works.
