I went to open the glasses to put on my face like I've done 1000 times and they broke right past the left hinge. Not on the lens side.

Is there any recourse with costa? I've had these awhile, so I may just be in the market for some new shades.

I know I can call them and ask but i was wondering if anyone had any experience with their customer service.

Best warranty/customer service I've ever had to use. Just call them and they'll guide you from there.

It used to be the best. I'm willing to be $5 they tell him it will be $50-$75 to repair/replace.

I've moved away for Costa for this reason.

This. The costa warranty is a myth.

In all honesty, if I can get a new pair for $50-75 the. I'm probably money ahead. These are pretty old.

That being said, they seemed to be in perfect condition and there was no stress whatsoever out on them before or when they broke. Weird place to break. Maybe my noggin is too wide for that style or something.

I had had mine replaced 3 times. Once free, once for 15, and once for 65 when I broke my 580G lenses (my fault). Until they prove to me otherwise, I believe in Costas customer service.

There was a time, Academy would just swap them out. Not sure they still do that. My roommate did that with a couple pair several years ago

They replaced my lenses on an old pair of glasses at my expense. That's totally fair as they were used fairly hard.
When I got them back, one lens had a tiny hair line scratch. I called them and I guess they refused to believe that they would send them back with a flaw, because they refused to replace the one lens unless I paid another $60. I told them to go take a hike and I've never bought another pair since.

I too think the warranty experience is a myth.

Should've bought Oakley's.

I've actually owned multiple pairs of Oakley's and loved how they fit. Only issue was that they all broke. Their customer service told me to pound sand. One time i went on a cruise and the polarized lens started flaking. They told me that the glasses shouldn't be used in a salty environment. That's when I decided I was done with Oakley.

I know I may sound like I'm hard on glasses but I'm not. I have had these costas for a long time, another pair for 9 yrs, a pair of Maui Jim's for 10, and a pair of ray bans for 8. All serve their purpose, all are well taken care of.

I paid $15 or 20 a year ago and sent them to their repair facility. I am convinced they mailed me a new pair or basically replaced everything.

they don't replace them for free anymore because their frames are crap these days. their lenses are awesome, but their frames fall apart time and time again. either the rubber pieces falling apart, wearing down, or tearing or the frames breaking. no reason a $250+ pair of glasses shouldn't last more than 2-3 years.

Their warranty depends on what breaks. If it's a 580g lens and it shattered, you'll be paying about $75 for new lenses. However, that should be expected as 99% of the time when a glass lens shatters, it's because someone dropped them and well.. they are glass. If it's the frame itself that broke, they have different tiers for what you pay, if anything. I don't remember it off the top of my head but I think broken temples are usually free and if the bridge broke it's $75 and everything else just kind of depends.

For OP, I have a feeling that they'll replace it for free if my reading comprehension is correct, but I'm not in their warranty dept so I'm not going to make a final "this is what they'll do" post. Definitely call them, though!

I just went through this with Costa.

My frame broke near the hinge. Mailed them the glasses. They emailed me saying that my frames were discontinued and to call them. Called and authorized that they put my old 580P lenses into a new set of frames.

This cost $50, not counting what I paid to ship them the broken set. Got my "new" glasses in the mail this week.

Not for me. My pair was like 5 years old or so and an ear piece thing broke. I sent it in and they gave me a new frame for free.

Last time I sent mine to costa (rubber ear piece had come off) they sent me a brand new pair. I know because the ones I sent were 400G and the new ones are 580G. It was the second time I had sent that particular pair, and the 4th time overall I'd used Costa's warranty. Every time I've only had to pay the shipping fee to get them there. Most of the issues I've had probably would have fallen under a wear and tear clause with any other manufacturer.

I sent in 3 pair over the last few months. Two were shattered lenses that I stepped on and one had the rubber earpieces coming off. All 3 were discontinued frames. I was told to pick any kind of new frames and lenses I wanted and they sent me 3 new pairs. I had to pay I think $70 each for the lenses that were shattered, the other pair was just shipping.

I sent in a pair with broken frame a couple months ago. They replaced frames for free sent them back with my old scratched lenses. They set on my counter for a few weeks since I had already bought a new pair. I opened them up one day and the old 580g lens had cracked. I thought for sure they wouldn't believe me I sent them back in they sent me a brand new pair for free. Not a myth to me.

The rubber trim pieces began coming off of my costa fan tails recently. Probably about 8 or 9 years old. My lenses have some noticeable scratches, as well. Will be interesting to see how they proceed when I send them in for repairs on the frames.

No issues from me with costa warranty. Sent in two pairs over the years to get the rubber fixed and got two new pairs of glasses just paid the $12 or so for shipping. Seems like some people think a warranty means insurance.

Costa warranty program has hooked me three times and I doubt I will go to other makers:
Once to replace rubber on my 580P Fisch that were 3 years old
Once to have the above 580P scratched lenses replaced with 580G (now 6 years old)... paid for the lenses so it was paying less than half the price to get a new pair of glasses
Once to have a pair of discontinued 580G Cortez with bad hinges and peeling paint replaced for free with a pair of 580G Rincons

That's what I did recently. I know for a fact they sent me a new pair cause I asked if I could swap for different color lens(one of my lenses cracked), they obliged.

Super easy, best customer service I can think of. Like 11 bucks shipping or something is all you should owe.

I'm about to find out - just printed off my shipping label.

My first experience worked out in my favor, but not without some hassle. I was part of Eye-Guy's first group buy, and the hinge broke on day 10 of ownership (my son more or less hugged me and they snapped as they were hanging around my neck). Costa wanted $75 for new frames, but Eye-Guy convinced them that I was going to put them on blast and rally the TexAgs Outdoor Board for more noise than they really wanted.

I'm hoping this experience goes smoother.....2 issues in less than 2 years doesn't impress me with the quality of their frames for $200.

I have 3 pair: Harpoons that are 5+ years old, Brine that are 4ish, and Fathoms that are about a year. I take pretty good care of my stuff and have never had to send anything in to test their warranty but yall have me wondering...

The Brines were my heavy outdoor use, hunting/fishing, working around the farm pair and so some of the plastic has peeled away and the rubber part actually separated from the hardened plastic part on the side pieces. I super glued it back together and they are still wearable, but I put them away and got the Fathoms to supplement my Harpoons that are more just driving and every day use.

If it will only cost me 60-70 bucks I might see if they would repair the frame on the Brines. I like the way they fit better and the lenses are still in perfect condition, no scratches at all. Guess I should email them and see what they say.

Yeah, if you guys ever have major problems with the warranty, let me know. I can help, but it's one of those things that I don't want to do it too often as the more often I do it, the less they'll listen to me. Basically, if something breaks that it absolutely should not have... like a hinge within ten days of getting them... I'm 100% on board to help. If you drop them and shatter the lens, I can't really go to bat for you on that.

If the rubber separated from the plastic, they will usually replace them free

I have two pair of costas that the paint is peeling off the frames. I've not called, but it put me off their classes. Has anyone had the frames replaced due to paint issues?

A couple of years ago I had a pair of Harpoons with 400g lenses that were completely destroyed by about 8 puppies(ear pieces chewed off, teeth marks on the lenses, etc...). I sent them back to Costa and they asked for $45 and 2 weeks later I received a brand new pair. Count me as a fan.
