Anyone have any experience with Thermacell mosquito repellers ? Gotta go something at the lake - the kids and I get eaten alive.

I have one of the little ones that you clip on your belt. They work really well. There is definitely a noticeable drop in bites with one.

Saves my ass during dove season!

We use them in the boundary waters, works great. Also use them while bow hunting, doesn't seem to bother the deer.

I have an older model of the patio version. It works great when we eat outside. I also use it in my bow blind.

They work well. It puts out some scent mosquitos dont like. So if its an on and off breeze it doesn't work as well.

I have one of the little ones for the deer blind and it works pretty good.

There's a happy medium with the wind. If the wind is high enough they generally can't hang too well anyway though. I've used a smaller standup Thermacell that that worked pretty well in smaller areas. This one appears to go to 11 though. It's so cheap that you almost have to try it!

Works good if not too windy. Cost $$$ to keep it running, the pads last a few hrs and refills add up quickly

We hunted on the Aransas NWR 8 or 9 years ago and I'm pretty certain that if I didn't have a thermacell I probably would not have made it out of there alive.

Fast forward to now and I have 3 handhelds and the patio one. They're worth every penny!!

I use a thermacell every time I bow hunt. Haven't had a single noticeable bite or ear buzz since using it.

Without one I spend all my time slapping myself and looking like a jackass in the bushes, which usually results in an unsuccessful hunt.

They work. If it's a camping spot, deer blind, or other stationary spot, mix up some permithren and spray everything down. Use both and you'll forget that you had a mosquito problem.

Around the house and they have been AWESOME! Controls them constantly. We have had over 13" of rain in the last 30 days and in the Texas Panhandle, that is a lot. We couldn't walk from the house to the pickup without being swarmed. After about 2 hours with the spartan hanging in the tree, we could mow the yard without a single bite.

We've used the portable Thermacell units at the Coast when the mosquitoes have been bad and it has always seemed to work quite well.

They work great. Wind can affect them so I like to set up a perimeter of sorts using 3 of them.

Buy the Thermacell Backpacker model. Trust me.

They run off of camping fuel canisters. You will make your money back on refills alone through your first patio season.

OP, thank you for posting that link; I am definitely going to check that out. I always work in the yard covered head to toe but that is usually more for the sun protection. The other day two mosquitoes got me right on the throat and one of the bites is now bigger than my palm along with hives that spread all across the area and itch like crazy. I think the immunotherapy I was on still lingers in my system and so reacts as if everything is a threat. The one that clips to the clothes sounds like just the ticket.

Hunting: Our lease is in low, flat land. Notorious for mosquitos after rain. I have gone to the blind with my son (box blind and we open the windows while hunting) and as getting set up and opening the windows hear the buzz of hundreds. 10 or so minutes after firing up the Thermacell, no more skeeters in the blind, and the smell does not affect the deer so far as we can tell.

Patio: I don't have a man cave, but my patio serves as mine. I like to smoke cigars and cannot do so in my house, obviously. I like to watch TV, or listen to old/Texas country music while I do so, and this is my time and don't want to be bothered by mosquitos. I use two of the Thermacell "lanterns", one at each end of the covered portion of the patio (approx. 22 ft. across) and give it about 20 minutes after firing them up. Can have mosquitos on my while setting them out, but when I go back out, no issues.

It is not a device for walking around thinking you'll get a clear area, however if sitting in one place, with no more than a light wind, they are nails.

We have the Spartans and I have thermacells. We took thermocell to my in-laws and it worked great for four hours then the swarm started.

With the spartan, you just have to check every few days or so to make sure there is some water in them. They have been in the yard working for over a month and still working (though it's beginning to dry up some).

We got a Dynatrap a few weeks ago and it is working amazingly.

We use Thermacell in our patios and they work great - we start them early to create the 'shield' prior to going out. Not sure what chemical they emits but it works and I'll probably grow a third arm from inhaling it but no mosquitoes.

Spartan runs about $19-25 for 2. Have used this summer with lots of Dallas rain and am really pleased. Backyard has always been off limits in the Summer until this year and after 2 months remains nearly mosquito free.
I sit out in morning and evening and used to be swarmed and now, no issue except one day after one of our downpours.

Seems like Spartans are to be used to control the overall population (best early in the season) and Thermacell for immediate short-term needs as a repellent. Is that fair to say?

Spartan really didn't do anything for me, except for catch a lot of ants.

We ordered 2 thermacell last week and I have not been impressed at all. I had mosquitos all over me even though they were both close by and it did nothing at all for flies but I didn't think it would work for them anyways.

Did you remember to turn them on?
