Saw one yesterday at the range and was curious what you all thought.

This coming from the guy who completed the 1911 thread checklist by throwing shade at Kimber
I was about to reply to the OP but you said exactly what I would've so thanks for that. I've had mine for several years - very happy with it.SBIBCA AG 03 said:
I have the full size 5" version and love it. I always wanted a 1911 but didnt want to spend 1000's and find out I didnt like it so I went with the ruger. I've never shot any other 1911 so I have nothing to compare it against but I can say I've never had any problems with it and can shoot it fairly accurate. Everyone I get to show it off to says it's a beautiful looking gun too.

They're a fine production level gun, and as I've unfortunately learned recently, Ruger customer service is fairly responsive so they've got that going for them if something ever goes wrong with yours.
I'd take a SR1911 over a post Cohen Kimber any day, for sure.

This may be a dumb question, do Kimbers not have a good reputation?

Kimbers used to be a smaller shop and they produced some good 1911's for several years. Then they got big, and their quality went down. That's not to say that they were garbage quality, but they certainly weren't anything approaching custom quality - but their pricing still sat closer to the custom range versus production range. I don't think they are a bad gun now, seems that their newer ones have a good rep, but they had a run for 6-8 years where that wasn't the case.Irish_Man said:

My biggest beef with them is they rusted like crazy. Has this changed

And this is what I was talking about with 1911's. The "meh" face you posted epitomizes how people get so illogically defensive.
Fact - Kimber's had issues for a while with barrels rusting while they sat in the shipping boxes. Wasn't unusual to pull a brand new gun out of the box and see surface rust on the barrel. It's not a crime for somebody to ask a simple question based on past history of performance.

People get emotional and defensive when something they believe in (or paid a lot of money for) gets questioned.
That's the one. Nice to hear. Thanks!Irish_Man said:
I have an E Series in stainless. I have it without the rails. I like it, have never had an issue with it.
