Not a rifle but is a great scope that would work great on top of some of the nice rifles posted here!

I have a gently used Springfield M1A Loaded Model, 308. With it comes the walnut upper hand guard (installed), scope mount, 1-5 round magazine, 1-10 round magazine, soft case, and 135 rounds of FMJ BT.

I'm in the Houston area, but travel all throughout the Texas Triangle, so can meet you there.

I'm asking $1,800, but let's talk and see what we come up with.

The right PCC is dependent on what you want to do with it! If you want a cool gun, a home defense gun or a competition gun. You can never go wrong with a roller delay as they are just plain cool and functional. My vote as it's what I have for competition is a CMMG resolute.

Thanks! I think my only requirements are fun to shoot and small enough to fit into my nightstand w/ suppressor if I choose to make it HD.

Foldable works too.

Something along the lines of a AP5P or Cmmg dissent or banshee would work. Also the Springfield kuna fits those requirements

$2500.

In reality the AP5 is the same thing for $1500 less but no H&K stamp on it.

SP5's typically go for around $3400. I saw an SP5-k this weekend at that price. They probably cost the retailer around $2600. At gun shows you will see them run from $2200 on up.

If you watch gun.deals or r/gundeals you can find them under $2,500:

(One sp5 listed here for $2,250 in the last year)

Apologies, just saw this. I don't pay close enough attention to the forums. I did not get zooguy's M1A SOCOM.

Also saw your subsequent post with the M1A Loaded. Great rifle, but I'm looking specifically for the shorter barrel and synthetic chassis. GLWTS

What's the right answer for a 9MM PCC?

A true PCC is a 16" rifle, however that term is commonly used for a braced pistol. Most of the suggestions above are for braced pistols, but if you are looking for a true carbine:

low end price - Kel-Tec Sub2000. Somewhat unrefined, but they do work pretty well.
low-medium - look at the S&W FPC, which also folds but is more refined in its execution than the Sub2k.
nearing $1k - CZ Scorpion carbine, which has a stellar history for reliability, and there is a large aftermarket. Could also consider the Springfield Saint Victor, but I can't tell you anything about that one.
over $1k - CMMG Dissent or Resolute, or the Sig MPX PCC.
over $2k - JP Enterprises 9mm rifle, or the 16" version of the HK SP5. I'm not sure if the HK is still being produced.

Since most people will use "PCC" in reference to a pistol instead of a true carbine, I will also follow that trend as well. If you are looking for a braced pistol PCC, then consider:

low end - Extar EP9, which seems to have a huge following despite its extremely low price. This would be the cheapest way to get into a very good 9mm PCC. Plenty of reviews for these on youtube. For someone on a thin budget, this is the way to go.
~$1k - CZ Scorpion or Springfield Kuna. Despite my slight distaste for Springfield, between these two I would choose the Kuna. Just know that you will need to purchase a different buffer that prevents spent shell casings from getting into the bowels of the lower.
between $1k and $2k - CMMG Banshee or Sig MPX K or MPX Copperhead K (not to be confused with the plain Copperhead). The CMMG has the advantage of using Glock magazines, while the Sigs use a proprietary magazine. Either brand is excellent in this category, so brand loyalty or lack thereof might be the deciding factor for you. Also in this price range are the MP/SP5 clones too, which certainly have a large following, including some OB'ers. I can't speak to these, since I have an SP5 and therefore have no need for something similar.
above $2k - the king of braced pistol PCC's, the H&K SP5. BTW, in case you didn't know, the MP5 that people are always mentioning is a full-auto pistol that will cost you between $30k and $50k. In reality, it is the SP5 that people have, even if they tell others they have an MP5. You see this a lot on youtube. The SP5 is considered by many to be the best "PCC" out there. Ours is my favorite firearm to shoot. These are the very definition of "buy once/cry once". If you are the type that just has to have the very best, just bite the bullet and get one. I would bet that you would not regret it.

Lastly - the B&T APC mentioned above is a great choice too, but I don't think I would spend that much money on one as long as HK is making the SP5. However, if you can find the GHM9 at no more than $1200 or thereabouts, it would be worth considering. These work extremely well, and the "C" version is quite small too. Potential downside for you is that they use proprietary mags, but you can also buy extra lowers that use either Sig or Glock magazines. My wife really likes to shoot our GHM9c a lot, since it weighs less than our SP5. But if you have to pay more than $1100-$1200, then just skip it and get a CMMG or MPX K.

I'd add the Daniel Defense PCC for consideration in the $1-2K, region; they can be found for less than $1,500. Familiar AR ergos and uses the Scorpion magazine. Double stack double feed work better in PCC applications, the rearward sweep of using a glock mag can cause feeding issues at increased round counts. At least this has been my experience with a CMMG Banshee. So in my opinion rifle mags for rifles.

Well -- I'm glad you have an opinion.

The MPX PCC that you pulled from my post as an example uses a double-stack double-feed magazine.

The Beretta CX4 carbine and the Extar EP9 Carbine both prove that pistol magazines can work perfectly well in rifles. The rifle just has to be designed correctly.

Caladan. I am a collector of vintage Winchester, Colt and S&W, and other. I know nothing about braced pistols or short barrel rifles but always enjoy learning and reading about them here on the OB. Just wanted to pay a big compliment to you on your above educational post. It was the most thorough and educational post I have seen on the above topic. If I was in the market for either types of the above firearms your post would definitely help me in understanding that market segment. Thank you for taking the time to post that. This is definitely how you TA's!!
