Looking for a high quality semi automatic long rife for sport shooting and can also be used for home defense.

Light weight but not plastic.

Caliber can be discussed but didn't want to limit offers.

I read the long rifle thread and the AR has my attention but I have zero experiences in these type rifles. More of a shotgun pistol type fellow, so maybe something for someone just starting but has experience with other weaponry would be a better request...just local.

You need to make some decisions:
First one:
1. Pistol
2. Rifle
3. Shotgun

then it goes from there.

So, what is the difference between a rifle and a pistol that looks like a rifle.
I got plenty of hand guns and shotguns but zero rifles and I don't want more than one rifle.

Something that can say kill a hog but also if I had a home invasion I could protect my love ones. Something with power but not a lot of kick.

I have plenty of time On my hands.

Being an idiot about doesn't bother me, I can get past that part with a few rounds behind me, just want to grow into the rifle, not out grow it...make sense?

Start off with a 5.56 AR. You can use the lower with several different uppers/calibers that will satisfy your needs.

Glock 48

While looking for 9mm I made a spontaneous purchase of a Glock 48 because Academy mistakenly had this one as a "hot deal". Never been a big Glock guy but wanted to give it a try as a possible/occasional carry gun. If you're not familiar it's basically a single stack Glock 19. Brand new this year I believe.

Took it to the range and put 40 rounds through it, still not for me. Selling it for just under list price at Academy, should save you a few bucks than in store or online. The definition of LNIB.
