A bit off subject. Believe it or not, he was a hell of an athlete in his. A lot of speed and a big running back. Think he won 10 games as a pitcher. His Dad was a coach. Both brothers were good athletes. Charlie recruited to SWT as a RB.

Sounds like a song of his

His son is a tall kid and is supposed to be a pretty good pitcher. Fish or sophomore at Alamo Hieghts.

It is a song of his. And it's true. Tremendous athlete

Sadly, as of today, it sounds like the song is no longer true.

This is the genesis of the lyrics in "My Hometown"

"Well, I played ball every single fall
I could run just like the wind
Went to college like they asked me too
But they didn't ask my friends
Don't think I seen a single classroom
But I drank a lot of beer
My buddies still love to listen to me when I talk about that year"
All the God's, all the Heavens, all the Hells are within you.

Last time I saw him was '11 or '12 at Firehouse Saloon in Houston. I thought it was a damn good show at a pretty small venue. Never had a bad show with him, but I was younger and probably 3 sheets to the wind. Always liked his music.

The Ticket interview Jack Ingram yesterday about the news of Charlie Robison. Jack said he was pretty bummed, and he was trying to talk Charlie into at least keep writing songs, and that he shouldn't give it up. Jack told Charlie he was overreacting, and Charlie basically said that Jack maybe right, and that after some time it's possible that he will get back into song writing.

while on the subject, has anyone ever seen Randy Rogers Band live, where it was a great show?

I've only seen RRB at Floore's, but every time its been a helluva show to big sold out crowd and great sound.

Seeing concerts at rodeos is the worst way to experience an artist.

I guess I'll give them another try then. I enjoy their music alot, but the live performance issue was killing me. The RRB fiddler has some chops, as does Cory Morrow's guitarist.

He played the 50th Watermelon Thump and went on about thirty minutes late of headlining Friday night because he demanded a bottle of whiskey before he'd go on stage. Thump directors scrambled and found a family friend who had a bottle at his house down the street. He chugged half the bottle and went on. True story, my aunt was the Thump director who had to deal with him.

Probably. My guess is you didn't listen to much Texas country music though, so it's not a shock. You missed out on some good music.

They were the first live Texas country show I saw. It was at City Limits in Stephenville back in '09, I was in high school. They set the bar pretty high as far as live shows go and RRB is far from my favorite Texas county group.

From MusicFest circa 2007, backstage passes to the Sugarland Crawfish Festival in 2011, to Red Rocks with Turnpike Troubadours in 2018 and a dozen shows in between...never a bad show.

Actually wasn't bad mouthing the guy at all, was more adding to his narrative of being a partier. New Years is a great song, but...big city blues would be my favorite off that album.

Saw a bunch of the big Texas Country guys back in my day at A&M. Never saw Charlie, though. Really wish I had. I still listen to a song of his daily that pops up on my playlist. The man had some great songs.

On a plus note Roger Creager (saw him a few months back at the redneck Country Club) and Robert Earl Keen, just saw him Thursday night) still put on a hell of show.

Charlie used to live around the corner from us and has since moved to a nearby neighborhood. Every now and then he pops up with a good rant on Nextdoor about speeders or whatever is an issue. Just a curmudgeon like the rest of us and I wish him well in his retirement.

I am in the car sorry for just a link. He gets a lot done by being a squeaky wheel so I have no problem with it, and his help for Rockport and before that tornado victims was amazing.
