He played the 50th Watermelon Thump and went on about thirty minutes late of headlining Friday night because he demanded a bottle of whiskey before he'd go on stage. Thump directors scrambled and found a family friend who had a bottle at his house down the street. He chugged half the bottle and went on. True story, my aunt was the Thump director who had to deal with him.
I don't doubt this but I also don't doubt the whiskey was in his contract and Thump decided to ignore it.

We had him play and an event and he requested to handles of tequila in his contrcat. We got them and had no issues.

Yeah seems like more of an issue with the Thump Staff. How do you book musical acts for 20+years to your crappy county fair and then act surprised when said musician demands that the booze that was included in their contract. Hell, of all the terrible small town festivals you'd think the one in luling that had a famous song about getting hammered at their festival would be less uppity. After all, this is German and Mexican central Texas, not the dry county idiots from the panhandle.

No song about Luling that I'm aware of and I'm from here. Clearly you've never been to Thump, it's anything but uppity, and it's a four day binge drinking contest. As for the contract, that was over fifteen years ago, so I couldn't tell you if it was in there or not. They didn't make it sound like it was. He's been back to play multiple times, no one was upset about it. What song are you referring to?

Saw him play several times all were good, but the most memorable was 2010 Chilifest. He had the crowd so wound up he had to cut the show short for safety purposes. People were throwing full beers towards the stage and hitting speakers and lights. Never seen anything like it.

I remember that...barely.

I was at Blanco's in Houston 20-25 yrs ago and Chris Wall was playing and he invited Charlie up onstage to play Barlight. I thought it was the greatest song I'd ever heard. Went over and talked to him for awhile and bought him a beer. I went to Cactus the next day and bought his CD.

Charlie Robison and Val Kilmer are my two favorite facebook follows. Their nonsensical rants are fabulous.

I smoked a cigarette with Bruce outside the Broken Spoke one night. That's my only Robison brothers story. Love their music though. Indianola is my favorite Charlie song by far.

Have you been to his Facebook before. Turned into a pretty big Lib. He is an unhappy person.
I wouldn't call him a lib. many of posts are pro 2nd amenment. I didn't go too far down his facebook, but looks like he just thought that boycotting Willie because he's a dem and always has been was foolish. Just saying to be a policy guy and not side blindly with a party. Disclaimer: I didn't go too far down

He told people in Austin to disregard this one.

Natalie Maines comment in London ruined his marriage. I would say he's libertarian.

I saw them at Shadow Canyon at Northgate back in 1996 or 97 and I remember thinking she was really cute. She has aged poorly.

She was blond and about 24. They were on Letterman or SNL the next night and exploded. Don loved to tell that story.

I happened to find his FB a few weeks ago, and from what I recall he's not a liberal. Seemed somewhere in the middle on a lot of topics, and looked like he enjoys stirring the pot.

I was at Wolf Dance in Fort Worth back in 2000 or so. Here where the last three acts in order and it was great.

1. Charlie
2. Pat
3. REK

Life of the Party is still an album I will listen to from start to finish almost every time.
