Need help identifying these two punks attempting to break in our home

I don't believe damage was done, but my concern is that these kids were lucky to have not gotten shot trying to break in our home. You can hear them discussing their plans. I have more clips but these are the clearest. Within 12 minutes, the awesome Brazos County Sheriff arrived but the punks had vanished. Their car is visible in the background alongside the driveway. It looks like a Hyundai Elantra or Honda Civic but I could be mistaken.

Their shirt colors are inverted in the nightvision so the best clip is the first one. I use the Arlo security camera system.

It was in Indian Lakes around 11:30pm last night (Saturday, Sept 8th).

My family would appreciate it if we could root out these guys and hopefully teach them a lesson so they may be able to right themselves before they face either a short or hard life that lies ahead for them. The material value at our house is nothing. Their lives are.

The Aggieland forum recommended I post here. If you don't want to post a reply and know of these kids, you can email me at: mike@hnatt.com

Thanks so much!

Mike

Post it on the Aggieland Board as well. Some local or a teacher will recognize them.

The dark colored tee looks like something from Hot Topic in the mall. I wouldn't be surprised if they were high school kids.

Already posted over there. I suggested to post over here since it's the OB that knows things.

Nice humble brag.

BTW, I don't think they were trying to break in. Nothing about their demeanor, dress, or actions seem malicious. I'm guessing they either were at the wrong house and we're told the door was open or you need to have a talk with your daughter / wife.

Here is the dark T-shirt.

I do agree nothing seems very suspicious about them, more like a wrong house when going to play video games with some buddies.

Does Indian Lakes have a Nextdoor or Facebook? HOA regular communication method? It's not really a neighborhood you happen upon, especially as high school kids. I wonder if they live out there, or visit friends out there.

Edit to add that you have a great camera system. What do you use? It's very clear, audio and picture quality.

Why would they ring the doorbell if they were trying to break in?

I'd be real curious if this was at my house as to what they were up to, but they don't seem to have a clue.

Ringing the bell and running away to see if anyone answers. Then going to the back door to see if it is unlocked. They were definitely up to no good but weren't real committed to the "breaking" part of "& entering".

Yes, of course. Innocent kids at midnight would say "make sure they don't have one of those doorbell cameras" and after ringing the doorbell run, then go around back and pull on all doors, and then ask "you're sure no one is home - right?".

I'm surprised that a few people here do not think they were being malicious. Evidently they didn't have the audio on to listen to what they were trying to do, nor watch the other clips. Then again, I cannot expect people to watch/listen to the entirety prior to dropping an opinion. But I can get just one helpful comment here to help these two kids out in their future of becoming productive adults in the community, then it was worth it to endure a few SA comments from some keyboard jocks.

@AgLA06: "Nice humble brag."

Humble brag? I do not think it means what you think it means . My alternative to would be to post what/where?

@MookieBaylock: "Not sure why you need help rich guy"

Classy logic and advice there on your take of an ideal society. BTW, my friend Karma says "hey". Again, our possessions are not our concern. It is the safety of kids who I'd like to live a longer more fulfilling life. Attempting to break into homes is aiming down a tough path. PS - you have no idea of our condition, but I won't hold that against you because I don't know you either.

@toolshet: It's the Arlo system (Best Buy DIY). We have liked it so far.

@everyone else: Thanks so much for the constructive comments. Hoping to prevent an unnecessary, tragic event from happening.

The audio in that first clip makes it seem pretty clear they were looking to break in

And the second clip when the one says "Are you sure there's no one in there"

I'm not good at ages. Odds are good, they are a neighbor's derelict/delinquent kids, but lots of thugs look very young.

If you have kids, I'm guessing they know who it is (even if they say they don't). This seems more like a prank attempt than a robbery. It's like they new the person who lived there would recognize them and know it's a prank when they saw the film.

If not, that's the most half hearted and moronic attempt of B&E I've ever seen.

BTW, I didn't know there was sound, but I'm still not buying it was a robbery. Wrong house maybe, but if that's the best threat of crime your neighborhood has, you can return the camera system.

Looks like a classic case of dumb and dumber wanting to check out what a 7 figure home for sale looks like.

These nerds wouldn't bother me outside of finding out who they were for some punishment.

Looks like they forgot the part where they light a bag of **** on fire before running off.

These kids were up to no good but they weren't ready to play with the big dogs.

This was 100% attempted burglary. Nothing short of that. The kids are easily heard saying "are you sure no one is home?" and then you can hear one of the kids in the back yard talking about what they have inside the home to steal and mentions "I mean they have a tv". Wake up people. These kids are going to be shot one day. Complete idiots.

You oughta not post unless you read and hear the facts. I guess the OP could have helped us by transcribing the things heard.

If you want to catch these kids, take these clips to a teacher that has been at the local high school for a bit and I bet they could tell you exactly who that is. If not there, play the clip for your mail man. Mail men are a good resource as they can maneuver around everywhere on foot and no one is the wiser.

I listened. It sounded more like he was questioning the other kids opinion that no one was home because they expected someone to be home.

These kids weren't trying to rob the house. After watching the videos numerous times I think they were just wanting to try and get inside to look around. Like someone else said they wanted to see what a big ass house looks like on the inside and figured if its for sale no one lives there. They then probably saw furniture in it and thats why one was asking "you sure no one is in there?" then he says "but theres a tv", questioning their actions and his buddies idea to get inside. These are just dumb*** kids. No burglar in their right mind would be as giddy as these ding dongs are in the first video. They're not whispering which makes me think even more they don't think anyone is there because of the for sale sign. And I would think someone breaking into a house to steal things isn't going to park way out on the street then having to carry their loot that far.

ETA: These kids are probably no older than 17. I would also wager a bet that one of them in 14 or 15.

This is based on my dumb***ery between the ages of 14 and 17 and the crap my friends and I would do, including exploring neighborhoods under construction.

This is exactly how it sounded to me.

Theoretically conversation:

Idiot one: "dude he said he would be home to play call of duty."

Idiot two: "nah man there is no one home."

Idiot one (now on tape): "are you sure no one is home?"

As for the tv comment it sounded more like "see the tv isn't on" or "see the tv" as if noting it was on/off.

But it's small clips of a long scene. And we were given nothing but the tapes to go off of.

OP isn't wrong to inform the police or call the local high school. Personally think they are some high school idiots looking to entertain themselves.

One kid is possibly linked to a track team based on the track themed shirt.

ETA: Back in Victoria high school kids would use for sale houses or under construction homes to smoke pot and hang out rather than smoke at home.

Those kids look and sound like they're about 14. They're a weird combination of naive and nonchalant. I would think you would either be naive and nervous, or competent and nonchalant, or competent and nervous if your goal was to burglarize a home. My guess is they thought no one lived there and wanted to walk around in the house, not realizing how stupid that is.

OPs point still stands. These dumbasses are going to earn a Darwin Award sooner rather than later if they keep that up whether their intention is B&E or something more benign

No one wants strangers sneaking around their house trying to get in. It's not unreasonable for someone to want to get to the bottom of it.

Man, a lot of people attacking the OP for what was an obvious situation of 2 people trying to enter his house when nobody was there. Had they entered a Yeti or said "Glocks suck" on camera, we'd know whether or not they ate corn last night by now and have their teachers up for review.
