We have a tailgate trailer and have been using a cheap vizio soundbar for a couple seasons, but with all the noise that can exist around Kyle, we really need to upgrade. It can be really hard to hear games at times. Anyone have a recommendation for an outdoor-ish (it will be kept in the trailer so hot/cold but doesn't need to be waterproof) speaker pair that can produce some good volume? I don't really want to have to get a receiver or amp so I'm looking for powered speakers (we have generators for the trailer).

Do you tailgate next to the frats?

Well last season the frats got scattered, so some weeks we would be near them and other weeks we wouldn't. We tailgate near Reed. We don't want to have other people around us be annoyed, just want to be able to hear football while playing cornhole/cooking. This is our trailer:

I know you said you didn't want to get a receiver, but I think you'd save money and get better sound buying a 2 channel receiver and a couple of used tower speakers.

I have a trailer kind of like yours we have been using for almost 10 years now. The first year we used a cheap home theater system. It sucked. You couldn't hear anything if you weren't standing within 2 feet of the trailer. I quickly upgraded to a pair of powered speakers. I got a pair of QSC K10's, and they sound incredible. Have had them 8-9 years now and they still sound perfect. I also got a small soundcraft soundboard so we can plug the dish box into it and play the game sound through them as well. Only way to go in my opinion.

He needs to let you start cutting holes in the side of his fancy trailer. You will have the sound booming in no time!

Honestly that would be a REALLY fun project.

Those look sweet but I wasn't planning to drop a grand on a speaker. Any advice for a decent but less expensive powered loudspeaker?

Not sure if this will help, but we bought a cheap ($129) import Bluetooth speaker/karaoke/tuner for BBQ parties at the house. Works fine for us, but a buddy has some cheap Pyle powered DJ units that work fine and have lasted more than a few years. They might give the frats a run if needed as well.

Just remember they are normally made by lower end car audio companies, and if used in their limits should be fine. They may implode, melt or die a sudden death if pushed too hard.

Amazon has them, Rockville and a few others that should be under $400 for a pair with stands.

The only other suggestion might be a marine head unit, amplifier and wake board speakers. Go with the same names and you can get a something better than a sound bar without breaking the bank and water proof to boot.

You can get a nice and loud PA speaker on a tripod at Guitar center. Wired or Bluetooth and hook up music or a TV to it. It's what we use and it's a good option.

Did I miss something, or did The Nerdery/tech forum get deleted?

Oh, I see. Op put "is outdoors" in the thread title.

Can you please provide us a list of acceptable topics and thread titles so we don't have to see this same whiny ass reply on every thread?

Its simple. If you have to write "is/are outdoors" in the thread title, then you should probably post it somewhere else.

The OB gets abused bc of the traffic here.

Mods cared enough about the RE board being overrun by the "Buy my house!" threads, that they posted a sticky at the top to help clean up the board. I wish the same would happen here.

The more that non-outdoor threads are allowed, the closer we get to becoming Gen Board 2.0 w/BBQ skills.

But I don't visit the other boards because those people are scary or not like me. I only come here to the OB.

Same. It is 100x better than the outdoor speakers on the porch when we have pool parties at my friend's house.
