I'm coming home.
My family has been in the suburban Washington D.C. area for close to 5 years. I moved the family up here to pursue the 'dream job.'. Northern Virginia, and the surrounding parts of West Virginia and southern Pennsylvania are really beautiful areas, but something has been missing. Recently the dream job has turned into a nightmare, but the positive effect is that it has brought clarity.
I badly miss spending time with friends and family; chasing dove and watching the sun set in central and west Texas; spending time out at the deer lease in the Hill Country; drinking beer and taking in Texas country music at Gruene Hall; attending Aggie football games; playing 42 and drinking Shiner beer until dawn; watching after the graves of family and friends.
I will tell you this: at some point you realize that the money ain't worth it. If you are in school or recently out, take a chance and take that job in New York, Europe, Hong Kong. Get out and experience the world. But once you have been around, sooner or later Sweet Mother Texas will call you home again.
I am blessed to be coming come. So this fall, I will see you on the lake. Or having BBQ in Llano or Lockhart or Taylor. Or at Kyle Field. Or catching reds down on the coast. Flushing some quail in south Texas; teaching my daughter about firearms and bows.
