From Philmont ->

Ute Park Fire Update: June 1, 2018 at 3:45 p.m.
The Ute Park fire is now estimated at 16,500 acres with 0% containment.
Philmont staff are currently in the process of evacuating to Colfax County Fairgrounds due to air quality.
Currently, there are numerous resources from State Forestry and our local and federal partners working to suppress this fire on the ground with support from multiple aerial firefighters.

We remain grateful for the many local, state and federal emergency responders for keeping our community safe and will continue to work closely with the New Mexico State Police and Incident Command to monitor the situation.

I'm hearing that Harlan is gone and the fire is heading over Deer Lake and to Clark's and Sawmill

Not to mention Cito and Hunting Lodge between those one canyon over.

I hope and pray the rain comes soon. I was reading about all of the unattended campfires they found in the Sante Fe forest over the holiday. Are some people that obtuse? That was something I learned from my parents, Girl Scouts, and Smokey the Bear. Crazy. They have their hands full fighting this fire at Ute Park and they don't need a hundred others to pop up from people not practicing safety. Also glad that the Scout staff were able to evacuate safely.

I'm about 40 miles from the Buzzard fire. All of NM is incredibly dry. Relative Humidity is probably 3-8% during the day. Temps go from low 40's early morning in mountains to high 80's during the day.

We generally don't get the summer monsoonal moisture until 2nd week of July. NM and AZ WILL burn for the next month.

40% chance T-Storms Sunday, but for every area that gets some rain, probably 4+ will get lightning strikes.

Hunting Lodge I am more concerned about. The rock wall and general clearing may help it jump Cito. In 02 the larger staff camps came out surprisingly good.

My main concern is if the fire gets in the canyon below Cyphers (not a huge concern at the moment). The long term effect would be borderline catastrophic. If the fire hasn't run North Ponil Canyon and hit IW, I would be a bit shocked.

That is good and bad. It means tomorrow could really suck. But I will hope for the best.

Right now there is strong belief that 3 staff camps are gone. I am trying to be optimistic, in 02 out of 96,000 acres (including Vermejo) Philmont lost a 1 latrine.

I've been comparing my map to the NWCG site via topo lines and I'm gonna say Harlan, Cito and Ute Gulch based on what they have marked. This sucks so hard. A friend of mine still knows people on staff who are saying Hunting Lodge and Dean Cow might be gone as well.

All my friends I used to work with are taking it hard. Cimarron Canyon man

We just delivered the last meals of the day to the firefighters.
Thank you to all who helped US fix 730 meals today! Thanks to Angel Fired Pizza for feeding all of our volunteers.
We will be serving another 350 firefighters breakfast in the morning. Volunteers can show up at 4am if you like.
WE WILL NOT OPEN TOMORROW! See you on Tuesday!
They've closed their restaurant to the public, and are feeding fire fighters, instead.

I recommend everyone eat there or "Angel Fired Pizza" next trip to NM.

Having been through the Ponil Complex Fire, and being on the original Fire Rehab team, this is killing me....and keep in mind, I am a fire bug. In many ways, the 02 fire was a professional blessing for me. Came out of of it with fire ecology training and teaching experience, Red Card, sawyer, post fire watershed rehab and management experience......I'm actually chatting with the current wildlife specialist about how to professionally spin this into a positive...if the season goes

I was a PC at Dean Cow in '96

Right before sundown, smoke started being seen on the Philmont webcam. Picture a camera over at the old museum with the left third aimed at the Tooth. Plume leaning south.
