Any suggestions here? Brother in law gave me a brand new Weber genisis but I don't have a natural gas line hook up for it. I was hoping there would just be a kit to convert it.

Cant you just buy the regulator + hose assembly at lowes and hook that up to the current input or cut the old and attach the new one? I would think as long as you can clamp the regulator to a hose running to the grill you should be good. The gas is low pressure past the regulator so it should be able to be hose clamped into place but screwing it on is best. You could probably solder a new hookup in place as well if needed to screw the propane hose onto.

The orifice in the valve for each burner has to be replaced to convert from natural gas to propane. There is more energy per volume of propane than natural gas so the orifices for propane are smaller. Be aware that Weber doesn't support any conversion in the case of their grills. I found this statement on their website:

Quote:

The benefits and drawbacks I just outlined are the main reason why grill owners sometimes want to convert their grill. They may have a natural gas grill and have now moved to an area where natural gas isn't available. Or, they may have a propane grill and don't want to deal with refilling or exchanging tanks anymore.

However, due to safety considerations, the complexity of the technology and gas train components, as well as the level of disassembly required, we don't allow conversions or provide conversion kits. Converting a grill will actually void the warranty on the unit and might create an unsafe situation.

However, there are videos showing the process and parts available.

To piggy back on this thread; I have a propane fire pit, is it an easy process to be able to hook it up to nat. gas? I have a gas stub on my patio already.

62 - you would most likely need a larger orifice/burner jets to get the same amount of fire from natural gas.

I have a funny story about a discounted (returned) Jennair gas range I bought once. Long story short, whoever had it changed out the orifices and converted it to propane and didn't bother to tell anyone.

The regulator fix was easy enough, you just took a piece out and flipped it over, but jennair absolutely would not send me the proper orifices. They said it was a safety issue. No kidding I said. The flames would almost reach my upper kitchen cabinets.

I just went thru this same scenario. I called Weber and they would not assist in any type of conversion and told me to buy a new grill. I took out my orifices and went to a propane shop in north austin where they plugged them and drilled out smaller holes. Try calling propane shops and see if they can help.
