I'm not in the market for a new smoker, but sounds too good to be true. What's the story?

I ordered the smoker back in June for a big event I had in February. Gator Pit missed the delivery date. It's going to be available in the next couple of weeks.

I've got to believe that since they missed the deadline, they would work something out with you.

It's a nice pit, but I would have reservations about doing business with them in the future if they missed the mark then left you with a pit you don't need any longer

What is the main cost associated with professional grade smokers like these? I know nothing about them, but I'd never think by looking at it that it would be $5k plus.

Definitely not trying to ridicule anything, just curious.

It's a good question. I'm sure folks on this board have more insight than I do. However, I paid $5250 for the pit not including shipping.

My understanding is that Gator Pits are as good as you can get. But again this board knows more about it than I do.

I just want the pit to go to a good Ag that will appreciate the deal he is getting...

If they missed the date by this much, I would refute the charge on my card and not accept delivery.

Im guessing he prepaid for this pit. You're picking it up from the gator pit factory so that eliminates some unknowns. Meet him at gator pits. If its like he says buy it and be happy. If not get in your vehicle and drive off.

I think this is an excellent deal for anybody that might have already been in the market for a quality pit. Somebody needs to snatch this up asap.

This is not the kind of gator pit I was expecting coming in to this thread.

I've built a trailer pit about that size (at least I used that exact model when I started to dream up the initial design) and can say that I have at least $3k in mine in materials and supplies, and that wouldn't include my time building it. I'm sure they are pretty efficient with the process (and what I built likely turned into something much bigger), but that's a decent price, IMO, if operating a profitable, reputable business. You've got steel, rods, grinder wheels, labor, trailer parts and accessories, etc.

It seems odd OP is willing to take a $2000 hit right away.

The guy is either really rich or it wasn't his money that paid for the pit.

Just like RCR06 said, see the pit for yourself at Gator Pit before making a commitment to buy it. No risk involved.

Yea I get the hesitation but there's really not much risk involved here if it's still at Gator Pit. It's a steal for someone!

Not very far. Maybe a half-mile total and then pull it through sand. The beach.

I've had zero experience with trailer pits.

In the video through the link, the guy said he could easily maneuver it by hand. I'm assuming you could rig something up to your cart to move it around.

Edit: The sand is obviously a different challenge depending on how compact or soft it is.

Yeah maneuver it is different than pulling it. I'd imagine it's still heavy as shlt.

I would think you could get away with pulling it with a golf cart down the street but no way would you be able to pull it through sand at the beach.

The sand worries me. I see the golf carts all the time but never pulling anything. I'm sure it won't work.

I guess I'm just confused on why the OP still has to pay for the pit if they missed the deadline like that. Why not tell them you don't want it now (due to their error), and let them figure out how to sell it? Did you already pay a non-refundable deposit or something on it?

I emailed him. I mean I'll take it for that price. I feel bad if he's losing the difference in money. That's not right. He's been on these boards a long time. I think he's just trying to give another Aggie a good deal.

Browsing their site it says they require 50% up front and 50% when work starts.
