I am humbled by the spirit exhibited by Louis Zamperini (Unbroken) and Jacob DeShazer. Not only did they endure unspeakable horrors while prisoners of the vile Japanese regime, they managed to forgive their captors.

I'm not sure I could do either.

For those that don't know, DeShazer was a member of the Doolittle Raid, and returned to Japan as a missionary. Zamperini also made return trips to Japan and made peace with them.

It's probably that part of the story(Zamp/Unbroken)that choked me up the most. You've just read through 100 pages that just rips your guts out to read. Then you read the "rest of the story". Reading the scene on his visit to the war criminal prison was insane. I'm about to ball my eyes out in public for Pete's sake. I'm looking around trying to find out if there are exceptions to the man card rules when reading a POW story.

If a man can cry when Ol' Yeller dies, then war stories are certainly allowable.
