I think the issue is that it's moving at 5 mph or less and when they talk about landfall they're talking about the center of the storm. I think the eye is around 20 miles across, so 10 miles to the center + 10 miles away = 4 hours. Could be wrong though.

I told my cousin I'd stop checking in on him too often so I didn't drain his battery. I kind of understand why they stayed... a large part of their business is disaster prep and cleanup. Keeping my fingers crossed they weren't too busy taking care of other people that they forgot to stock up themselves.
Are there WaffleHouses in SE Texas? (Don't recall ever seeing one, myself.) Wonder what level their disaster menu is at, or even if they even have plans to open in the next week?

Cantore is 20 miles away from the eye wall of a category 4 hurricane and there are cars driving by and people walking around behind him. Does not give off the appearance of a super dangerous situation

My parents, two brothers and their SO's all live on the island in corpus. They all evacuated. Hoping their homes are all ok.

Saw that and was very impressed. La cantera is a damn nice resort to offer that kind of deal. Good for them.

Aransas Pass is already seeing gusts over 100 mph.
A couple of people with AirBNB listing in our neighborhood in Austin have set their price to $0.
Ugh. Spent all day cleaning gutters, checking downspouts, making swales and ditches to divert water around the uphill side of my house, buying supplies in case we get flooded in by washed out roads or high creeks, securing everything for heavy rain, etc...

Things are really looking grim all of a sudden. Could not get my dad to leave Lamar, he would have been ok at 110 and 10' surge. If it's 140 and 18' he very well might not make it.
As for me me, fort bend is now predicting and planning for well over 2016' 100/500 year brazos flood. Which means everything I just rebuilt will be gone.

I have a cousin that lives north of Victoria that left. Re fear e O is the only way I ever heard it, but it was funny because I then couldn't associate the name on a map with the town itself when I was a kid.
