Depending on where people are in Corpus they may be fine. My in-laws and my wife's uncle are riding it out. But Corpus has a lot of elevation compared to other areas of the coast. Both of their houses are pretty high compared to the water and the uncle lives only 2 blocks from Ocean Drive. My in-laws are a couple blocks from the Nueces River. I'm not worried about them from a water standpoint. Run from the water and hide from the wind.

Having said that trying to sleep through Ike sucked. Hours and hours of howling wind, weird noises, and no power. My in-laws are not going to enjoy this.

This should get your attention. Especially if you have decided to stay and ride it out. This is an unprecedented response asset request for the state.

Do you think it's more a factor of having competent and prepared leadership at the top, or the potential danger of this storm?

I think people learned from the mistakes during Katrina.

if you are sheltering in place on Port Aransas you are a dumb ass. this is going to be one of the highest storm surges to ever hit the Texas Coast since the have been recording these things. My buddy that's a guide and a Tug captain said a good majority of Aransas will be under water

My family has vacationed in Rockport every year since I've was born (and before). I'm sick over what may occur to all the places I've had memories there. Of course I feel more for the good people who live and work in the area, as well as own property even more. Prayers for all.

I live in port a. It's quiet right now. Waves are really low. No wind. The cc schools are waiting to close. Won't tell us yet. I really don't think it's a big deal. The rain worries me more than the wind. We see big winds in the spring every year. The no power and no Ac is what I don't like.

If it happens the way they are saying....all the rain. The storm surge will keep the water from draining and cc will be flooded. That'll be bad. The park road will be flooded as well and they'll be no way to get back here or out so I guess I have to leave.

Actually they just cancelled school as I was typing. Fun day now. Every friend I have is asking me to haul their golf cart today. Lol. Be a long two days and then that thing will go north or way south. The roads are apparently already crowded too. Oh well. It is what it is.

GTFO of Port A!

The problem is NOT riding out the storm. It is that the rainfall flooding may trap you in areas for WEEKS.
Exactly. This is not a more typical quick-moving hurricane that you should ride out. It will cruise in slowly and sit, and flood more than normal and trap you in. Better to be over-prepared and get the hell out of the danger zone than be sorry.

Just out of curiosity, what is leading you to this thought? As far as I know, there hasn't been anything to indicate that any of the projections are weakening.

Houston isn't going to get anything much more than TS-force winds, but we're lined up to get a biblical amount of rain, and it's not like it takes a whole lot of rain to start flooding the city.

Weather Channel can be beyond ludicrous at times. Dude in Corpus just reported on a bird nest that was blown out of a tree.

Buses are being sent south to help folks evacuate. They will go to San Antonio shelters 1st. When that's full, they'll go to Austin. When Austin is full, they go to Bell County. These are County coordinated efforts. So if you're sent to Bell County, everyone checks in at the Expo Center then are dispersed to area shelters, like the one at the local Churh of Christ. The Bell County animals shelter is prepared to take in pets, so I'm sure other County shelters are as well.

Because we aren't getting serious rain unless it takes that hard right turn after landing. That's anything but a certainty
