Dang OB, y'all know how to find me new toys. Is there an RTIC version for $79?

$300 and not even an assisted opener?

I have a benchmade griptilian and as previous posters said, the axis locking mechanism really is great. The thumb stud flips open the blade lightning fast to the point that I haven know desire for an assist. My griptilian is my go to edc knife.

And it's thicker and heavier. That being said, it has a very smooth assist, I would love to get one someday. It blows kershaw assist mechanism away!

Don't need it to be an auto with how fast it opens with the flick of your wrist. I went back and forth between the 940 and an Auto Griptillian for about 20min before I landed on the 940. I like it because it opens as fast as the autos without it feeling like it's going to jump out of your hand.

It's not $300. Terk has no idea what he's talking about.

$182 on Amazon.

Think I'll stick with my Kershaw Blur and Case stockman.

I wouldn't go that far... I'll own it, I configured it in Carbon Fiber, not green. Carbon Fiber lists for 315, and is available for $250-285.

Green lists at 215, which as many have posted here is available if you shop around for 150-180.

This board is full of guys (and gals) who pay $400+ for coolers, $4000+ for shotguns, and $40,000 for high fenced safaris... no shame in spending bucks on a nice knife that you're going to carry everyday - but expect a little bit of ribbing about it.

I think that is a great plan. My only advice would be to never barrow your buddy's Benchmade, because if you ever use one you will realize why so many people are willing to pay $182 for a knife.

Which, as it turns out, was exactly the OP'S point. Yes they are expensive... but they are worth it.

+1. This is my EDC in slacks. It's like the Sig 238 of pocket knives.

What I find more awkward than expensive widgets (hey good things are expensive) is how many grown men has "dressy knives" and EDC knives.

Same two knives, flashlight and wallet go in my pockets on my way to the farm, work, my job interviews and my wedding.

Guess I need more disposable income.

My everyday carry is a gentleman Jim by Emerson. Nice little knife. Was a gift from my best man.

The only benchmade I carry now is a Doug Ritter Griptilian with custom micarta scales. Pretty sweet, but they don't make them anymore.

Pretty much, yep.

I understand those who aren't interested in spending much on a pocket knife. But if you're the type that carries and uses a knife a lot, its easy to appreciate how nice the 940 is compared to most other knives. You'll notice those in this thread who own one have nothing but good things to say about it. They're great knives.

They're some of the best production knives you can get. The only thing better would be a custom knife. Chris Reeve makes these knives with tolerances that are tighter than the aerospace industry.

I've carried a G10 North Fork every day for about a year and a half. My first Benchmade product, and I'll never carry anything else. The tolerances are tight. There's no wiggle or play in the blade, yet it opens and closes with minimal effort. It locks up tight with no movement. The S30V blade steel holds an edge for a really long time. The lifetime tuneups and warranty are nice and say a lot about the build and materials quality. I also only paid around $140 for this knife. They are surely a worthy investment.

Really? I work for a machine shop that manufactures spark plugs for jet engines. Our tolerances are crazy tight. If they are close to being that close for a pocket knife I'll be really impressed.

That seems unnecessary.

Yeah kinda a broad statement. Considering the size of the industry

0.0001 inches is the tightest tolerance used in Chris Reeve knives. How does that compare to yours?

Ok then. Tighter than some? I'm not claiming to be an expert. It's just what I heard.

Just watch both parts of this video about how they make their knives. It's pretty impressive.

I had some gift cards to academy and picked up this 943 Osborne to replace a mini griptillian I lost. I wouldn't normally pay that much for a knife, but since I had GCs it made the pain easier to bear.

The thing is razer sharp and holds an edge waaay better than the mini-grip, which is why I went with the S30V steel. I love the locking mechanism and can open it one handed with a slight flick of the wrist almost like an auto assist. Done it a couple times in front of people and they thought it was an auto. It's slim enough that I use it for my edc.

My EDC is a sbenza and has been for about 3 years. I use mine for food almost daily... never use disposable plastic knives at work, skip full steak knives when eating out and always have a sharp knive for daily tasks. I carry my knife IWB style as can't carry at work. Nice little habit to develop and good routine. If you are rough on EDC, don't buy a high dollar knive but it you want something that you will appreciate daily and go for it. BTW benchmark knives are great as well and wouldn't hesitate to use one. When it is time to clean deer, the tools come out, work is done and the steel is of the type that is easy to sharpen... nothing fancy!

I fully agree with the idea of carrying a pocket knife daily, but this might be a little extreme...

Eff you Outdoors forum! I am a knife (and gun and flashlight) junkie. And because of this thread i just researched and bought a 940. The Blurs I got on Woot are going to be pissed if this becomes my new EDC.

Because a K-Bar, suit and wingtips just clash. Don't feel like getting hauled into HR.

Serious question, HR would get on to you at your work for carrying a knife? F that job. Hell a job requiring a suit is pushing it.
