I know this is old news to some of you, but holy crap what a knife. I held off for a long time because at that price, that's a lot of ammo I could be buying instead.

But I get the hype now. If I'd had just bought a 940 as my first pocket knife as a kid, I would have saved a lot of money and time wasted on mediocre pocket knives. Heck, for what I've probably spent on pocket knives over the years I could have bought a couple of these instead.

Axis lock is secure and great for one handed closing, blade steel is good, it is light at under 3 oz, disappears in the pocket, good blade size.

Best pocket knife I've ever had. Yall should pick one up.

I've wanted one of these for carry in dressier clothes for a long time. I currently carry a 950 after losing my mini griptilian. Benchmade is the way to go for folders IMO.

For what I use knives for, I wouldn't spend 1/3 of that on one.

It would sit in a dresser for me to look at everyday if I bought it for that much.

Benchmade makes great knives. the sharpen so well to get razor sharp blades over and over. My next one is going to be the AXIS.

I thought the same, until I did.

Now I'm wishing I had bought once, cried once from the beginning.

Got one. Love it. Anyone ever sent them back for the factory re-sharpening?

I looked into it, and seems for an auto knife you have to take it to a dealer to send back. Maybe I am wrong and misread it?

It's all relative. I felt the same way as you when I first bought a Benchmade knife. Now that I'm on to better knives, I wish I hadn't wasted my money on Benchmade.

These knives are worth every penny. I abuse mine pretty bad at times. And it doesn't skip a beat.

I've carried my 943 black for 4 years now, and I still love it! I need to send it back, but I haven't yet.

I have recently gotten a hankering for a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Does anyone have both knives? How do they compare?

Also, Has anyone gotten the 940-2 with G-10 scales?

If you have any old Benchmades you need to get rid of, feel free to give them to me. I'll even pay shipping

I have an infidel. Send it back once a year for service through the dealer. Only pay shipping.

My little Gerber Paraframe has done a great job - cost me $30, has made it through umpteen washing machine cycles when I forgot to take it out of my pocket, holds an edge, can clean my fingernails with the best of them and even cuts something once in a while.

Plus, it's all metal and extremely thin. And If i do lose it (have done it before), it's $30.

Cactus- help us out, what are some brands you recommend?

I'm assuming you are talking in the pocket/folder type segment.

I have some very nice, "knifemaker", one man shop type fixed blades that are great and I would say are better than Benchmade from a materials and craftsmanship standpoint. However, always interested in high quality, practical, every day folders too.

Wife bought me this knife with carbon fiber body and upgrade blade to S20V and had it engraved. Carry it everyday to work. I have a full sized Griptillion for around the house.

Good enough for me, very nice knives.

For what knife? The 940 is under $200 on Amazon all day.

List price, bro.

as in no one pays that, but it's what they list it for from the manufacturer.

Then it seems a kind of silly thing to be focusing on, doesn't it?

Good point. Under $200 is practically a bargain.

Takes and holds an edge better than any knife I've had prior, opens as fast and easy as an auto without the spring loaded jump, super light for a knife this size, rides low in your pocket on the clip, just to name a few

I have a friend that works there. It was a 40th bday gift and no, she did not pay list. Yes, it is a very nice knife.

1st it's super light and fairly thin so you don't even feel it in our pocket. 2nd it deploys very smoothly, when pressing the thumb stud it flips out like it's assisted, but it's not. Alternately you can pull back the Axis lock and flip your wrist and the blade will fly open. 3rd, because it's not assisted, it closes very smoothly. Pull back the Axis lock and with a flip of the wrist it's closed.

I actually think #3 is the most important, because it's just as easy to close and put back in your pocket as it is to lie it down between cuts. Which is why I've been able to not loose mine for right at 4 yrs now.

For those worried about the price, I got mine for 150 on sale. Just keep your eyes out.

My 940 is pretty beat up but I like it. Mine has the purple stripe, but I think I've seen a blue strip before too. Anyone know the difference?

I carry my qtrmstr a lot these days though. They have some very weird looking knives, but I have a roper variation that I really like.

Can someone save me the google search and tell me the difference between the 940 and my 580 Barrage?

The 580 Barrage adds a spring assist. I believe that's the only difference.
