This was a new setup we installed in September as a bow blind at the back of our ranch along a creek. We always saw a nice trail going right through this clearing so setup this feeder with panels, primarily to keep any cows away from the feeder but chose the hog style panel with the smaller bottom openings.

Anyways, fast forward to present day... We only hunted the stand a few times in october and early november before the rains started coming which flooded the creek bottom until last weekend when i was able to drive the mule down there and check things out. This is the best day time photo i have. great to see its keeping the momma pigs out but it looks like the babies are getting in. I'm guessing they are climbing? I dont want to go with taller panels for fear it may be too tight of an area that may discourage deer from going in.Wish i had been around when they were there during the day to put some hurt on them.

I'd bet if you put a t-post in the middle you would keep them out.

My guess is that they are pushing under the panel.

That's funny.... glad you could control them. You are probably training them in some way too.

I have seen little pigs go through the larger holes.... not sure if that could happen here.

Hog panels would definitely not control cattle around my place. Hog panels are too short.... cattle jump right over them.

I hope you can move the camera to catch how they are getting in.

Do you only have posts on the corners? 16' panels need 4 posts per side.

wish i had the pic already uploaded (maybe tonight) but i have a bunch that show the cows just standing at the panels looking in at squirrels and raccoon eating the corn. No pic of a cow in the pen to date.

Looks like you have a nice little trap there. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

My bet is that whatever you tied the panel to the post they have broken and only the smaller hogs can get in. I used to use zip ties and the hogs would chew on the plastic until it broke, and then have full access. As stated above, the smaller ones may be rooting underneath the middle of the panel

Pigs are a lot smarter than many of the two-legged animals that roam this earth.

Did you know pigs is as smart as dogs? It's true. I knew this guy in El Capitan who taught his pig to bark at strangers

More T-post. Been down that road before.

All panels are still wired tightly to their Tpost and there is no physical evidence of where they could be going underneath the panel.

I'm going back to the ranch tonight to work for the weekend and am going to try to put a second camera up on the opposite side with the cameras facing each other. However by this time, these babies are much bigger and likely not able to get in but we shall see.

They are digging and getting under your panels, as other have suggested. When we set up hog traps, we always bury some panels in the ground so they cannot dig out of the trap. I would advise the same to you for the opposite reason, aka keep them out.

Happy cattle then, and not hungry enough. I sold a Brangus Bull about a year and a half ago that could jump all of my fences if he felt like it. That is why I sold him. The crazy thing is that he was a huge bull, and he would just take his time to get set and "slowly" jump over a fence with the top wire at about 52". Cows do the same but not quite as high. My corral is a fairly standard pipe and cattle panel construction... the top pipe is probably 60" or higher.... none of them have ever gone over it because it does not give.

As long as they don't know they can do it, you have a chance that they may never try. Once they try, and succeed, you're screwed.

Under or through. If they were climbing the big ones would be in as much or more than the little ones.

They aren't digging. However because there are only posts at the ends they are just pushing against the bottom which allows them to go underneath. It flexes just enough for the smaller ones to go under.

I would also stagger which side of the fence the posts are on.

Agreed. Make it a circle instead of a square.

That isn't the problem. All ours are square or rectangle and never had a single hog get into any of them. We also have a t post every 4 feet.

I think you can say that isn't YOUR problem. But it might be his. He stated there was no evidence of digging or forcing under the fence so I took him at his word. When hogs dig, they dig. You can see. If they were pushing under there would also be evidence (hair on the fence, etc.).

I have watched hogs climb paneled fences in the corner many a time be it a feeder pen or a show pig climbing out of their pens.

I would think that corners would be an issue with them climbing OUT not climbing in, but who knows!

And they call it hog panel because???
Because the holes in the bottom part of the panel are too large for a hog to get its snout into. If they can get their snout into a hole in the panel, they are strong SOBs and they can lift that entire panel as if it were a feather pillow.

And yeah, I'd bet they are simply rooting under the bottom, bowing the panel in and up into a nice little rainbow-shaped piggy gate.

I'm on over the counter medicine, or at least that's my excuse. I looked at the picture, looked directly at the inside of that picture and thought "they'll climb right there."

You are 100% right.

There is zero doubt that they are pushing under the panels. Not enough T-Posts.

If you had more T-Posts and this was still happening, it could be a wiring issue.

Hog panels work, if you build a pen properly. However if the pig is big enough they will climb it if they want in bad enough.
