Robert Keen is supposed to be in Amarillo tonight. I assume that will be canceled.

I figured it might, but I've seen times when Spearman got a lot more precipitation than Gruver so I wasn't sure.

I'll probably run over at lunchtime and eat at the lunch counter at Gordon's. Their hamburgers and fries are consistently pretty good.

I parked my car on the sidewalk over the weekend so the city could do a better job of snowplowing the streets. I'm going to have to remember to congratulate them on the excellent job they did snowplowing everything.

We're headed up via Ok and Ks. Almost to OKC and the roads have been slushy so far but nothing too terrible. Going to be a long day!

If anyone is in northern OK or central/western KS, let me know how the roads are. Everything we've seen says they're passable.

Planning on leaving tomorrow morning from Dallas to Colorado Springs. Hopefully this stuff has blown over by then. My current plan is to take 287 through Amarillo and Dumas, all the way to Lamar, CO. Then across to Pueblo and up to the Springs.

Anyone ever taken this route? Like others have mentioned, I'm not wanting to experience that desolate stretch before Raton and I'd prefer to

stay off mountain passes as much as I can.

287 closed from Childress to Amarillo. Probably open noon or shortly thereafter. Taken both the Ration route and Lamar route many times. Incredibly desolate through OK Panhandle and se CO. The mountain pass is going to be far better traveled and maintained.

Thanks for the response. May just go through Raton then.

In the Amarillo area, east/west roads are more drifted over than north/south. Hubby drove 20 mi north to work and reported roads not bad til he got to town. I bet the highways will be decent by afternoon. Might want to plan an overnight stop as opposed to driving in the dark!

We are still in Plano but are gonna head out for Amarillo around 10. I booked a room there and we will hopefully get up early Tuesday and make it to Red River.

I'm also heading to Colorado today, trying to pick between the I35/I70 and 287 routes.

It's sounding like I35/I70 might be my best bet...yes?

Weather channel guy on the ground in Amarillo just said they're expected to open I-40 both ways "shortly". Anyone confirm?

US 287 between Amarillo and Childress is scheduled to open at noon. Who knows how long it will take to unlink the traffic and return to semi-normal conditions.

Were I headed from DFW to Colorado, I'd avoid the Panhandle/South Plains.

No official word, but Google Maps seems to show traffic moving on I-40. I-27 still slow in places, but looks like movement there, too.

I-40 in New Mexico currently open to Clines Corners, closed from there to ABQ.

Roads in northern Oklahoma and western Kansas all clear so far. Going speed limit on dry pavement.

Everything around the Midland Odessa area is slushy. It will definitely freeze again tonight and be a sheet of glass tomorrow morning.

I just drove through Big Lake and Garden City. Tomorrow morning is going to be bad... very bad.

Just got back from Spearman.

I think Spearman must have got four or five times as much snow as Gruver. They actually have little piles of snow here and there on the sidewalks on Main Street.

So how is it up there now? Roads cleared up yet? Or still bad shape in some areas?

Went from Westcliffe to Salida and back yesterday. Roads there are fine. Looks like things are clearing up. Snow here is melting during the day even with sub zero temps in the morning.

Roads are fine here in Salida. Planning to drive to DFW starting in about an hour. Little worried about the conditions at night but my dad wants to push on.

Had a friend that drove from Liberal, KS to Nac today. Said the roads were crap but she got through. I figure they'll be icy tomorrow but I'll manage.

Now driving in a rig with my mom sitting shotgun for 12 hours...yall pray for me.

We left Plano around 930am and made it to Clayton NM around 530pm mountain time. Easy drive. Glad we waited until late morning to leave DFW instead of the original 4am departure we planned. I think Wichita Falls would've been bad.

We got a room in Clayton since my 6 and 3 year old were pretty road weary and I was a little nervous about Cimarron Pass in the frozen dark. Will be in Red River early tomorrow. Missing one night with our group at the house we rented, but happy to travel safely.

I'm in Alamogordo trying to go home to Texas tomorrow. Was planning on driving the way we got here,(through Hobbs) but all the road conditions are freaking me out. Should we just go home through El Paso?

Charlie, we are in Ruidoso trying to get to San Antonio. The road from Ruidoso to Roswell has been closed since early Sunday. We are leaving tomorrow and are going to El Paso. NM has a good website for road closures. Google "road conditions in NM". We will go back the shorter way if possible but I don't think 380 from Ruidoso to Roswell will be open tomorrow. But check that website in the a.m. to be sure.
