My brother-in-law is looking to buy a new deer feeder. He'd prefer to buy around the San Antonio area so he can check out the feeder in person.

He's looking into Spintech, but has no idea of other reputable feeder brands.

Any recommendations or reviews that can help?

I wouldn't go with Spin-Cast. We've used them in the past and they are alright. Almost all 20 feeders on our lease have been converted over to the Eliminator design by Ultramatic in Hockley. Keeps birds, squirrels, and coons from getting to the corn without the need for a cage since the spinner plate has a spring to push it closed after throwing. They work great. Looks similar to what Spintech is offering but I have no experience with the brand.

We replaced our Spincast with 22 volt All Season and are much happier.

I really like Diamond feeders timer out of Ingram since it doesn't require a battery. Their concept for varmint proofing is something I thought about a long time ago, and I think it will work really well. I haven't used their feeder though, just the timers that I put on some existing feeders. I will be getting more to replace others as they go out.

We've been buying the new Spintech feeders and I have been very impressed. They seem well built and the mechanism is full proof when it comes to birds, coons and wind.

Not to derail, but has anyone here ever used one of these gravity fed style feeders?

Probably to small to put up out at a lease unless you were going to put out several of them but might be effective if you have deer that come up to your yard.

Worries would be coons shaking the poll to empty it out if mounted on a T-post or just climbing up to it if mounted to a tree.

I've been moving to stand and fill feeders. I've got HB (from Ultramatic) and All Season. Both use Eliminator plates and are awesome. Its nice to fill from the ground and both hold 600#+.

One issue is 6vt vs. 12vt

There is a little spin tech that is 6vt that I'm about to give a try. It has an "eliminator" type spring and I'm real keen on seeing it it works. 90% of the rest of ours are Spincast but the spring eliminator won't work with 6vt.

I have used the game capsule feeders since they first came on the market.

worked great for a while.

Then dust would build up in the auger system and not pick up corn. These were sold as lifetime feeders.
Called the seller and they had a retrofit kit, free of charge.

Hogs started popping the lids off, so I bought some bear proof(their term) lids. Basically, a metal lid with bolts.
Hogs tried but couldn't get in.

Then hogs started rubbing their tusks on the side and wearing the plastic out till it came open. Additionally, I had some badass hogs that started climbing on them an popping the lids off the battery compartment which also has the solar panel on it.

I talked to the oasis, they said bring em all in.

Called me a few days ago and said I had three brand new feeders ready for pick up, free of charge.

They have added a metal band around the bottom where pigs where rubbing. They have changed the spinner from plastic to metal due to wearing out. They have also put solar panels on flat and changed the top part for the better.

I bought these after several people i know died from falling out of a stand or trying to fill a feeder. It just wasnt worth it to me and I don't like winching something up and down. I do have an all seasons in the hog trap that I winch up and down.

I love being able to pull up and pour the corn in something on the ground.

my two cents.
