Yeah, I don't know where he is getting it from. The forecast doesn't show it.

So technically, it isn't elevation above sea level, but elevation above the survey benchmark NAVD88 +0.6'.

Also, you aren't far off about the releases from Mansfield Dam being like Niagara Falls. Right now they are releasing about 28000 CFS and normal flow over Niagara Falls is 85000 CFS. It is a lot of water. However, for reference, during Harvey, Lake Houston was releasing 400,000 CFS at the peak. That was an inordinate amount of water.

Wait, Niagra is only 85,000 cfs? And the Llano River in Llano yesterday was flowing at 290,000?

Technically, Lake Buchanan's main purpose was water storage for Austin and not power generation. The power generation was just a nice benefit.

Just curious if it was credible. While down there we heard a bunch of different rumors. Most of them were around the Lake coming up again overnight but that didn't happen at all. Everyone seemed to know someone that knew something though.

It's stil raining it's ass off in the Colorado and Llano riversheds, so I'm afraid we're not out of the woods yet. Llano was running really high along 29 and thru Llano.

That is the average. During the summer, it can be as much as 100,000 cfs, but they turn it down at night to 55,000 cfs. The highest rate ever at Niagara was 225,000 cfs. And yes, the Llano was higher than that yesterday. That is how devastating the flash floods really are and why the dams are important.

search Llano River Cresting on google and you'll find several news sources saying they expected the Llano to crest this morning in Llano near yesterday's crest but later they said it's not going to get near that.

Austin 6pm news yesterday had it dropping from 39.9' down to 20 something and then back up to 40+ last night. By the 10pm news they were saying a steady drop.

I can tell you what 140,000cfs looks like on the brazos unfortnuately.

I'm surprised there's not a legion of whitewater kayakers down there as there is some epic class 4-5 stuff going on.
The lakes are closed to recreation by LCRA.

Not going to get political... I don't know the ins and outs of who all owns what and where along that river. I suspect it's LCRA as they're pretty much 4th in the chain of command along that river behind The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. But for now, if you're caught on the river or lakes in that area for recreational purposes, you're going to jail.

They have their own Marshals to do it too. I was once threatened to go on a ride with them by an overzealous LCRA project manager on a project I was working on. Fun times.

Anyone know about the roads around Llano? I'm supposed to go up tomorrow to check on feeders and get things ready for the season.

I come in off 29, go through town on 16 over the bridge, and then turn on 2323. Checked TxDot and ATX floods, not seeing any road closures. Just checking to see if anyone had some first hand knowledge of things.

It's pretty crazy watching the water come out of the spillway on Mansfield dam. Wednesday it was a foamy clear greenish hue that is the normal color of lake Travis. Today it was a gushing mud colored torrent coming out of the gates. I presume the big surge has muddied Travis from end to end. There's going to be all sorts of crazy debris in the lake this winter.

We've had rain every day since Sunday as well. Today has been the most consistent. I'm just as tired of the rain as everyone else.

4" since midnight in Portland Texas.

It rains. Every. Damn. Day.

Heard on the news last night that Travis caught enough water in 24 hrs to satisfy Austin's water needs for 4 years. That blows my mind.

Guadalupe river downstream of Canyon lake is flowing at 3,000 cfs. Guess they finally decided to let some water out of the lake. Don't make any plans to fish the river this weekend!
