I imagine all gates on canyon lake will be opened to full within a few hours. Looks like gate 1 is already open and has been for a few days
Canyon doesn't have much in the way of gates. I think they really only have the 1 that goes through the power plant. Otherwise it'll have to backup and hold behind the emergency spillway.Aggie_3 said:

I think they did some work to repair the emergency spillway issues. It is still quite a ways from getting close to that. Flood stage for the lake is 943 and it is at 909 right now. The 2002 crest was 950.ttha_aggie_09 said:
Isn't canyon the dam with integrity issues? Or did they fix those?

Houston, surprisingly
I believe Medina Lake had the issues. The Canyon Lake spillway has only been used once and it created a gorge.ttha_aggie_09 said:

Nelson Wolff caused a stir by making claims he knew absolutely nothing about. The dam has never been overtopped in 100+ years and never will be. They did do some strengthening and repair work later on but the dam has never even been close to failing.p_bubel said:I believe Medina Lake had the issues. Probably a floating dock that he can move up or down the slope of the bank based on water level.
That gorge at Canyon was cutting back towards the backside of the dam, and it was worried at the time that it would destabilize the backside of the dam.p_bubel said:I believe Medina Lake had the issues. The Canyon Lake spillway has only been used once and it created a gorge.ttha_aggie_09 said:

We stayed right near the resort marina, be interesting to see what it looks like today
The crest of the emergency spillway is just a 1 ft wide concrete wall. I'm not sure how deep it goes into the rock. It's primary purpose is to create a smooth and level elevation that sets the height and location for the crest of hte spillway. During the flood though they had 10ft^3 blocks of limestone breaking free and moving down the channel.txags92 said:That gorge at Canyon was cutting back towards the backside of the dam, and it was worried at the time that it would destabilize the backside of the dam.p_bubel said:I believe Medina Lake had the issues.
