Why are they opening gates on Buchanan when it isn't full?

It seems to me they are worried about the dam and they have tons of water headed their way from West Texas.

Also, realize that Buchanan only goes to 1025, so they need to make damn sure it doesn't get that high. The emergency spillway is only 1020.5. They see a big wave a water coming their way so they release to maintain the level. Buchanan isn't a flood control lake. It is mainly a water storage lake. The only lake to truly be a flood control lake is travis. This is why the dam at Travis is so much taller than the conservation level.

Travis has never been over the spillway?

No. The highest Lake Travis has ever been is 710.44 feet on December 25, 1991.

The spillway is at 714.

The difference there is 101,776 acre-feet which is basically the size of Lake LBJ.

Fascinating

Right now there is about 660991 acre feet of protection in Travis which is about 6.5 LBJs. Which is a lot of water.

The rotation in the storm is starting to worry me. This reminds me of Allison where it went through and then spun back and caused lots of flooding.

There is also a chance of a low pressure system to develop in the gulf next week

Continually sucking moisture from the Gulf and dropping it inland is a scary prospect when the ground is already saturated.

Had 5" this morning early in Hoechheim.

I'm up in North Texas, headed back from Duncan, OK. 87 north of Bowie is under about four feet of water. Took 82 west into Henrietta and half the town is under water.

To add to that... The weather guys in Corpus (NOT Dead Wrong Dale) mentioned that if that system does develop, it should put Texas in it's dry west side with winds from the north. That would imply to me that we'd be favorable to set up a high pressure system over Texas and start letting us dry out. I think we want that low to develop and build rather than fizzle. If it fizzles it could allow what we've already got to hunker down on us.

When is this low pressure sitting on us supposed to move east?

It passed quickly when it came through here but it dumped at least another inch or 2. It was pouring flooded our parking lot pretty good

It's almost like a dad gum tropical depression is starting to form over Texas. There was no rotation 24 hrs ago and now it's very defined.

Upper Brazos still getting slammed. Pecan Plantation front gate bridge in Granbury just closed. The Brazos is over the road. I was born and raised there and have never seen it that high.

Yep. Lower part of the camp is definitely underwater based on some of the videos I've seen from friends who are in town. I'll link some later when I get the chance
